Lecce: summer 2023, all the initiatives for the beach season.
Separate waste collection also on the free beaches with special bins, portable toilets branded with the symbolic places of the marinas and a platform equipped for people with disabilities in San Cataldo. These are the innovations for the 2023 bathing season put in place by the Environment Department of the Municipality of Lecce, which has activated a series of services and initiatives useful to guarantee hygiene and decorum, health care, bathing safety , accessibility for all in the Lecce marinas.
Public hygiene and decorum:
In carrying out the cleaning service of the free beaches, the extension of the separate waste collection on an experimental basis is also envisaged on the free-use beaches of San Cataldo with the positioning close to them of 15 street bins with 5 disposal outlets, one for each waste fraction. The baskets will be equipped with planters and, in the initial phase, the presence of eco-informants is expected.
The chemical toilets placed every year near the major public beaches of the five marinas will be branded this year. These structures generally used on construction sites, normally having an impact on the landscape, will be covered with forex panels on which the symbolic places of each marina stand out (the San Cataldo lighthouse, the Frigole water pump, the Torre Chianca watchtower, the Casemate of Spiaggiabella and the coastal tower of Torre Rinalda). Alongside these identifying marks, there will also be references to some of the most significant monuments of the city: the Column, the statue of the Saint, the Seat and Porta Napoli, to strengthen the link between the coast and the city centre.
A total of 22 portable toilets, currently being installed, starting from Torre Rinalda and Spiaggiabella. Specifically, in Torre Rinalda in via Porto Empedocle and in Spiaggiabella in via Portofino; then, in Torre Chianca in Piazza Paradiso, in via Marebello and in via Eolo; in Frigole in via Bergamini and on the Mori seafront, corner of via Ribelli and in San Cataldo in viale Vespucci, viale Verrazzano, Marinai d'Italia seafront and via Michelagnoli.
Health care:
In agreement with the Social and Health District and the General Directorate of the ASL of Lecce, from last June 15th until next September 15th, the summer health care service was activated in Torre Chianca, Frigole and San Cataldo. With something new: the emergency room of San Cataldo has been set up in the premises of the rectory and the sacristy of the parish.
The medical facilities available seven days a week for tourists and citizens are located in
San Cataldo, in via Dubrovnik 12 (from 9 am to 17.30 pm, tel 0832.650829), in Torre Chianca in via Marebello 4, 6 and 8 (from 10 am to 18 pm, tel 30), and in Frigole in via Attilio Mori 0832.376019 ( from 16am to 9pm, tel 16).
However, there are two 118 stations: a traditional one, active 24 hours a day, set up in the Torre Chianca marina in via Marebello and another, aquatic, at the Police Headquarters lido in San Cataldo, which, through the use of the jet ski, allows you to carry out any intervention quickly even when the weather and sea conditions are particularly adverse and other techniques or means of rescue would be difficult to use. A summer pharmaceutical dispensary has also been set up and opened in San Cataldo in via Margarito da Brindisi.
Bathing assistance on the free beaches of San Cataldo:
From this season the Environment sector will set up two rescue service stations complete with structure, equipment and personnel on the free beaches of San Cataldo, which will be active in the next few days. Two lifeguard towers have been positioned: one on the stretch of beach between Hadrian's Pier and Lido York, equipped, among other things, with jet skis and a defibrillator for adults and children, and the other between Lido York and Lido Santa Barbara.
Accessibility of the free beaches:
In the five marinas in Lecce, the public works sector has positioned, as usual, removable platforms to allow people with disabilities to reach the shoreline. As an additional service, on the San Cataldo beach, on the seafront from Verrazzano, a platform with a walkable surface of 80 m9 will be positioned: a wooden structure with a shade cloth for parking, bathing aids for the disabled with the availability of a JOB chair and suitable toilets and showers. A Third Sector body, which the Welfare Sector is identifying, will supervise and guarantee the correct use of the platform every day from 19am to 15pm until XNUMX September.
«This year we are launching a series of initiatives dedicated to beaches and bathing in our marinas which represent a watershed between before and after. We are activating some services on an experimental basis starting from San Cataldo, such as waste separation on the beaches, the equipped platform for the disabled and the lifesaving plan with the installation of two towers, which we hope to be able to make structural in the other four marinas in the next few years. We are experiencing a delay of years on many things that have already been a reality in other coastal locations for some time but we are aware that the path is clear and we intend to follow it" declares the Environment Councilor Angela Valli.
