Lecce, at the Apollo, “Our souls at night” with Lella Costa and Elia Schilton
The story of the couple, the sunset of two lives and the rebirth, new and unexpected: Our souls at night (we remember a version at the cinema with Jane Fonda and Robert Redford), twilight romantic comedy this time at the theater with Lella Costa and Elia Schilton, based on the novel of the same name by Kent Haruf at Lecce-Teatro Apollo on Saturday 3 February (at 21pm) for the theater season of the Municipality of Lecce organized in collaboration with the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese.
Based on the homonym novel by Kent Haruf, published in Italy by NN Editore, theatrical adaptation by Emanuele Aldrovandi, directed by Serena Sinigallia.
Addie and Louis, both widowers in their seventies, who live alone a few meters away, have known each other for years, because Addie was good friends with Diane, Louis' missing wife, but in reality they don't see each other, at least until the day they Addie makes a rather surprising proposal to her neighbor. Since, after her husband's death, she has difficulty falling asleep alone, she invites Louis to come to her place to sleep together. It is not an erotic proposal, but the desire to share with someone again that nocturnal intimacy made up mainly of chats in the dark before giving in to sleep. But society is not ready to grant those entering the third stage of life a romantic dream.
“An extraordinary novel, one of those that engraves itself on the soul and gives it relief and confidence. A light story, whispered in the night. No shouting, no violence, no arrogance. There is no elbowing here to assert one's right to exist, everything here is on tiptoe, delicate, gentle. A true balm for those who feel crushed by this harsh and brutal world. Lella Costa is Addie, Elia Schilton Louis. Two magnificent actors who can embody the sweetness, the poetry of this story with the light and grace it requires. We spectators will be with them, we will listen to their conversations, we will have the privilege of seeing the union of their souls take place before our eyes."
