Latina, Silvio Orlando “Life ahead” at the Teatro Comunale D'Annunzio in Latina
Ticket sales for the shows will open on November 30th, but it will still be possible to subscribe to the 2023-24 season of the show. Teatro D'Annunzio organized by the Municipality of Latina and ATCL, a multidisciplinary circuit of Lazio, supported by MIC Ministry of Culture and Lazio Region.
It starts on December 5th at 21pm with Silvio Orlando, who also takes care of reduction and direction, in LIFE AHEAD di Romain Gary (Emile Ajar), translation by Giovanni Bagliolo (Biblioteca Neri Pozza edition), with Daniele Mutino on accordion; Roberto Napoletano percussion; Luca Sbardella clarinet/sax; Kaw Sissoko kora/djembe.
Published in 1975 and adapted for film in 1977, at the center of a controversial Goncourt Prize, Romain Gary's Life Ahead is the story of Momo, a ten-year-old Arab boy who lives in the multi-ethnic neighborhood of Belleville in the pension of Madame Rose, an elderly Jewish former prostitute who now makes ends meet by taking care of "Accidents at work" of younger colleagues. A moving and still very current novel, which tells of ramshackle lives that go upside down, but also of an unlikely love story touched by grace.
Silvio Orlando leads us inside the pages of the book with the lightness and irony of Momò becoming, naturally, that child in his drama. An authentic masterpiece "for everyone" where emotion and fun chase each other breathlessly. It goes without saying that Gary's genius anticipated the theme of the contemporary themes the coexistence between different cultures, religions and lifestyles. The world suddenly seems small to us claustrophobic in oxygen deficiency. The migratory flows are grafted onto an economic crisis which, especially in Europe, seems to have become structural, creating new and ancient fears especially among the working classes, the least guaranteed. If this is the picture, what function can and should the theater have? Certainly not to indicate ways and solutions that no one is able to provide to date, but once again to tell exciting, moving and funny stories, to call by name individuals who appear to us as an indistinct and distressing mass.
Telling the story of Momo' and Madame Rosa in their desperate embrace against everything and everyone is necessary and useful. The last words of Garay's novel should be a slogan and a compass in these years where compassion risks becoming a luxury for the few: YOU MUST LOVE GOOD
