The inauguration of the second edition of Specialis. Ancient Spice Festival, the great demonstration of historical reenactment from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century La Spezia strongly desired by the Administration and promoted by the Cultural Services of the Municipality of La Spezia which will take place during the days of Friday 27, Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September with guided tours, parades, music, shows, dances, crafts, duels between fighters and workshops for adults and children.

The inauguration of Spetialis will take place on Friday 27th September at 21pm in Piazza Garibaldi and until 23pm will wind through the streets of the city centre with a historical procession with shows featuring three different groups of costumed re-enactors, concluding in Piazza Verdi.

The highlight of the event will be on September 28th and 29th, the program of which is included in the “European Heritage Days”, promoted by the Council of Europe, with the theme “heritage on the move”.

Saturday 28th September is scheduled, at morning, the guided tour by reservation to the Civic Museum “Amedeo Lia” on the occasion of the exhibition “The art of travelling. Italy and the Grand Tour” entitled “On the road. From the Middle Ages to the Modern Age”By Andrea Marmori.

In pomeriggio, at the Civic Ethnographic Museum “Giovanni Podenzana”, in the historic centre, through activities and laboratories aimed at children, adults and families, you will be able to learn and experiment with traditional crafts, knead and stamp croxetti, you will deepen your knowledge of edible herbs and create a herbarium, you will learn popular dances with live music from our tradition.

On the afternoon of Sunday 29th September, San Giorgio Castle will be the undisputed protagonist, coming to life from morning to evening with reenactments, dances, workshops, activities and offering a snack and dinner in perfect medieval style. Not only that, a medieval reenactment is planned where you can visit a military camp and experience life in the era with workshops for children and adults renewed compared to last year, demonstrations of craft activities and archery tests.

All will be there will be the opportunity to savour dishes inspired by medieval cuisine on the terrace of the San Giorgio Castle as in a banquet, followed by shows, dances, music and a fireplace which will conclude this journey into the past.

The events will therefore involve the whole city and the civic museums, taking place partly in the historic centre and partly inside the Civic Archaeological Museum of the San Giorgio Castle, the Civic Ethnographic Museum “Giovanni Podenzana” and the Civic Museum “Amedeo Lia”.

Activities in the Museums include the payment of an entrance fee, while the procession can be admired for free.
