On the occasion of the exhibition The Art of Travel: Italy and the Grand Tour, the Civic Museum “Amedeo Lia” offers citizens a calendar of five events in the month of September with insights to discover the Grand Tour.

A rich and heterogeneous calendar for bring the current exhibition to life in the round and invite you to rediscover the Civic Collections of the Museum in perfect dialogue with the exhibition.

The exhibition
The exhibition is the museum event of the year of the City of La Spezia and intends to draw attention to the great journey of training and education which, between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, envisaged the achievement of places full of memories, where you can find comparison with the past and refreshment for body and soul.

Italy was the country of memory and the great garden of Europe, and even the gulf and its city become a destination, albeit late, of these cultured pilgrimages, a true natural attraction since, as he states John Ruskin in 1845 when the moonlight comes here, no other place is as "destined for watercolor" as this one.

The exhibition is therefore a further opportunity to enhance the Lia collection, placed in dialogue with extraordinary works on loan from all over Italy, among others, from the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica of Palazzo Barberini in Rome, the Civic Museums of Padua, the Museum of Rome and the Art Collection of the Cariplo Foundation.

Rome, Venice, Florence, Naples: these are the the four stages that the visitor to the Exhibition, transforming itself into the grand tourist of the nineteenth century, will discover in a completely new and immersive installation through an extraordinary aesthetic experience.
