Also this year Sicily, with the regional department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity, participates in the International Book Show, scheduled in Turin from 9 to 13 May and now in its XXXVI edition.
The setting up of the stand by the Central Library of the Sicilian Region “Alberto Bombace”, located in the Oval pavilion – W137, has as its theme “Donna Sicilia. Goliarda and the others. Anthology of Sicilian women writers of the 20th and 21st centuries in the collections of the Central Library of the Sicilian Region“. There will be numerous celebratory moments in which Sicilian women writers, whether born or adopted, will be remembered, and the contribution they have made to literature and culture in general over the last two centuries.
The exhibition area is dedicated to publications edited by the Sicilian Region and to the presentation of numerous texts published by the publishers of the Island. Alongside these, the presentation of several projects of the Department of Cultural Heritage in the field of promoting books and reading. Sicily, thanks to the collaboration between the Region and numerous public and private bodies, last year hosted the "General States of the Pacts for reading” curated by the Centre for Books and Reading (Cepell) and saw the city of Trapani positioned within the final five for the title of “Italian book capital 2024".
The Book Fair, which attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world, offers Sicily an opportunity to promote its literary wealth and its editorial traditions. An opportunity to enhance the cultural and linguistic diversity of the region and to promote cultural exchange and collaboration in the publishing sector. In this edition of the Turin event, particular emphasis will be given to the promotion of the “places of reading” of the Island, proposing emblematic images of the sites of Sicilian culture, as well as promoting a mapping of the numerous areas that have adopted and signed a “Covenant for reading” and of the Municipalities that have received the qualification of “City that reads".
