La Milano-Linate-Varese turns 100: an exhibition at Villa Recalcati to celebrate its first century of history.
Varese. “With this initiative we celebrate a century of connection, progress and innovation”. The regional councilor for culture said it, Frances Caruso, participating in the inauguration of theexhibition 'A8cento: the road system turns 100 years old. Highway Milano-Lainate-Varese' on display until February 1st at Villa Recalcati in Varese where it will be possible to admire 11 ancient petrol pumps from the Fisogni Museum in Tradate, private collection that preserves the largest collection of antique fuel dispensers in the world.
“This artery - has continued - not only allows us to commemorate an important infrastructure that has changed the Italian motorway landscape, but also to delve into its cultural implications which, inevitably, have influenced people's lives and society over time".
“I consider highways – he continued Caruso - not just asphalt, but above all as something that can encourage growth, development and the exchange of ideas. Inevitably this very important connection route is synonymous with interweaving stories and journeys, unexpected discoveries and human relationships. I am therefore pleased that this exhibition can offer a new interpretation of the motorway and its impact on Italian culture".

In 2024 a commemorative stamp dedicated to the centenary of the motorway will be created includes the provinces of Milano, Varese and Como.
