International Women's Day, events and initiatives of Pesaro 2024.
Pesaro 2024 celebrates International Women's Day with a series of events and initiatives “which encompass all aspects of the commitment – explain Daniele Vimini, deputy mayor of Beauty and Camilla Murgia, councilor of Growth and Kindness of the Municipality of Pesaro – put in place by the institutions, by civil society, by individual figures in the area who fought for freedom and women's rights.
Models of emancipation and rebirth from which it is still possible to draw inspiration for reflection and action on the female condition".
Biosphere – “Collections so as not to forget”
“Collections so as not to forget” is the title of the program (conceived and rendered image by the student Agata Cecchini of the Cecchi agricultural institute) that the Biosphere of Pesaro 2024 – Italian Capital of Culture, will present – at 17, 19, 21, 23 pm – on the occasion of the Day.
The 2 million LEDs that make up the sculptural-digital installation of 4 meters in diameter, located in Piazza del Popolo, will be colored and filled with images dedicated to 7 female figures who have marked the history of the area, chosen and told by students of the Mengaroni art high school: Wanda De Angelis (philanthropist, to whom the Wanda Di Ferdinando Foundation is dedicated); Adele Bei (from Cantia, trade unionist and politician, member of the Constituent Assembly), Elsa De Giorgi (actress, director and writer from Pesaro), Lea and Sparta Trivella (partisans and feminists from Pesaro), Costanza Monti Perticari (poet), Ave Ninchi ( actress from Ancona), Rosina Frulla (partisan from Pesaro).
The Italian Capital of Culture will also have an international outlook, with images that will allow those present to dive into the colors and words of Frida Kahlo (Mexican surrealist painter).
The first 'screening' will be at 17pm, in the presence of the municipal administration and the city's associations.
DiClassica – Julia Wolfe podcast launch
Pesaro 2024 continues its appointments, at 18.30 pm, at the 'GRA' not just courtyard food' for the launch event of DiClassica, the informative podcast of 8 episodes (duration 15/20 minutes) to tell the life and work of 8 extraordinary female musicians and composers of the last two centuries, often forgotten by mainstream culture.
The afternoon includes a contemporary dance performance by Masako Matsushita on the music of Reeling by Julia Wolfe and, to follow, classical music DJ sets.
During the event there will be a live connection with Caterpillar, and with Massimo Cirri and Sara Zambotti, hosts of the Rai Radio2 program, the official radio of Pesaro 2024.
The March 8 episode is dedicated to Julia Wolfe (1958), “A rebel of classical music”.
It will chronicle the life and work of the American composer, highlighting her bold approach to fusing musical styles.
Wolfe is recognized for her influence on New York post-minimalism and her ability to convey drama and intensity through a wide range of instruments and sounds.
The episode also explores works such as Anthracite Fields which won her the Pulitzer in 2015. East Broadway and the first movement of Her Story, dedicated to women's rights, are performed, with a quote from Abigail Adams' letter.
The episode will be available for free on the platforms Spotify, Apple music, Google music, Amazon music and others in the process of being defined. The listening links will also be found on the Pesaro 2024 website. The episodes will continue to be available until 31 December 2024.
DiClassica is a production of Pesaro 2024 e Olympia Orchestra (implementing body of the project), from an idea and with the words of Margherita Macrì, the voice of Valentina Lo Surdo, the artistic direction of Roberta Pandolfi and the musical direction of Francesca Perrotta.
