In Verona the new dimension of trees at the end of their life: transformed into habitat homes.

Nature must be protected and cared for, if possible even giving it new life, especially if it concerns precious green areas in the city centre, ensuring the conservation and continuation of biodiversity. In fact, a plant at the end of its life must not have a pre-determined destiny, but it can become a safe and welcoming place for all the small animals who can thus continue their natural life cycle.

A topic that is close to the heart of the municipal administration of Verona who, together with Amia and the Biodiversity department of the Forestry Carabinieri, is the promoter of the reconversion project “Habitat Tree”.

In fact, a careful analysis has begun on the municipal territory which, so far, has led to the identification 13 trees at the end of their life, suitable to be transformed into a welcoming ecosystem. And already 8 are ready to host our little flying friends, squirrels and small invertebrates.

One of these is the large shrub inside the gardens of Piazza Bra, a few meters from the fountain which will no longer have to leave its place and, after a specific safety and arrangement intervention, has become home to all the new life that will want to find refuge there.

“Albero Habitat” is an initiative that has a dual value. In addition to guaranteeing ideal environmental conditions for animal species, it can also be a valid educational and awareness-raising tool for school groups and citizens, who will also be able to find inspiration for giving new life to house plants.
