Liguria was the protagonist of the third edition of Roots-IN in Matera, the two-day event of networking, training and business matching entirely dedicated to roots tourism and the promotion of Made in Italy. The event has taken on a further meaning in this edition: 2024 is in fact the 'Year of Italian Roots in the World', promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enhance the cultural and family heritage that links Italian descendants to their land of origin.

The potential pool of over 80 million Italian descendants in the world, roots tourism represents an extraordinary opportunity for Italian incoming; a natural stimulus, therefore, to create initiatives aimed at encouraging the return and rediscovery of one's origins.

Liguria was the protagonist in a series of in-depth panels on the themes of Italianness and cultural belonging, with particular attention to the stories of Ligurians in the world: the meeting “Italianness as a factor of attraction: Roots, Traditions and Stories from the Italian regions” It was an opportunity to delve deeper into the experiences of Ligurian emigrants and the role of traditions and cultural values ​​as an attractive element for roots tourism.

Furthermore, the Region participated in the final session "Italea in 2024, the year of Italian roots in the world: assessments and future prospects", during which the main results of the initiatives launched this year were presented, including the collaborations activated on the occasion of the various missions promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the countries affected by the great migrations of the past centuries.

Numerous visits to the Liguria stand which, taking up the concept of the Salone delle Eccellenze presented during this year's Boat Show, has embraced the theme of promoting Made in Italy by adapting it to the regional context. The “Made in Liguria” stamp, which identified the exhibition space, It is in fact the brand that certifies the authenticity and the very high quality of everything that, from cuisine to culture to craftsmanship, makes our region unique on an international level.

This edition too, Roots-IN confirms itself as one of the main events for roots tourism. Over a thousand registered participants, 74 buyers from South America, Canada, Spain, Belgium, Australia and the USA, 155 sellers from all over Italy, 29 exhibitors including institutions and companies and 13 Italian regions with their stands and their offers. Numbers that demonstrate the growing interest in this tourist segment and highlight the potential of Italy's attractiveness as a destination for Italian-descendant travellers.
