From the Mosaico di notte itineraries, with guided visits in the evening hours to the city's monuments, to the numerous Ravenna Bella di Sera initiatives, also for the summer of 2024 there are many and varied evening proposals in Ravenna, promoted by the Tourism Department in collaboration with many local entities.
"Even this year – says the Tourism Councillor Giacomo Costantini – the historic center of our city will be animated by musical and cultural moments in two unique settings such as Piazza San Francesco and the Ancient Franciscan Cloisters. Furthermore, with Mosaico at night there will be the opportunity to access the monuments, with guided tours, in the evocative atmosphere of the evening. Everything was made possible by the great collaborative work of the institutional partners, whom I personally thank, who continue to give this extraordinary opportunity to citizens and tourists".
Appointments related to the project began last weekend “Integrated safety of the pedestrian path above the western walls of the city for tourist accessibility to the historic center”, funded by the Emilia-Romagna Region, with three moments of entertainment in Piazzetta Gandhi and the surrounding pedestrian areas. After the evening of June 21st that saw the Swiss rapper Mattak on stage, the next appointment will be on June 28th with the musical contest, with free registration, in which rappers will bring their songs, unreleased or not, to challenge each other with rhymes, in front of a jury composed of journalists and producers of the rap and urban sector. Friday July 5th instead, the overwhelming music of the Tiger Dixie Band will be the protagonist which, starting from the area surrounding Porta Adriana, will continue towards Via Cavour, with the festive energy of jazz and the grace of the sound of New Orleans.
As for guided tours, it's back again this summer the Mosaico di Notte review, in Italian and English, promoted by the Municipality of Ravenna, realized thanks to the precious collaboration with the Opera di Religione della Diocesi Ravenna-Cervia, MiC – Ministry of Culture – National Museums of Ravenna, the Fondazione RavennAntica, the Istituzione Biblioteca Classense and the Istituzione MAR Museo d'Arte della città di Ravenna, as part of the project of the Ministry of Tourism for the valorization of Ravenna Città del Mosaico. Mosaico di Notte, which has been proposed for over twenty years, will be held from June 28 to September 6 with an extremely varied calendar.
Tuesday evening (2 and 16 July, 6 and 20 August) appointment with the guided tour of the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe. The Basilica will also be open to the public from 19.30 to 23 (last entry to 23).
Wednesday's itinerary (from 3 July to 28 August), instead includes a visit to the Neonian Baptistery, the Arian Baptistery and the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo. The Arian Baptistery will be open to the public from 19.45 to 23.15 (last entry to 23.15).
Two guided tours are scheduled on Friday evenings, every other week, with two different endings. The first itinerary (28 June, 12 and 26 July, 9 and 23 August and 6 September) The first one includes visits to the Basilica of San Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and the conclusion at the National Museum of Ravenna, while the second one (5 and 19 July, 2, 16 and 30 August) will conclude with a visit to the Domus dei Tappeti di Pietra.
From 21.30 inside the Basilica of San Vitale there will be the musical review Mosaici di note… di notte curated by the Giuseppe Verdi State Conservatory of Ravenna. The National Museum will be open to the public 19.30pm to 23pm (last entry at 23pm), ticket office also online at www.inforavennantica.it.
The Basilica of San Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia are normally open to the public from 21pm to 22.45pm on Friday evening with the normal combined ticket.
The guided tour has also been confirmed this year, always on Friday evenings, only in the month of July, at the Classense Library, while the addition of from the 28 June to the 6 September, every Friday evening a visit to the Collection of modern and contemporary mosaics of the MAR – Museum of Art of the city of Ravenna, with a final aperitif offered by the museum's cafeteria. Finally, from 28 to 31 August, the Week of Theodoric is scheduled with several events, still being defined, at the Palace of Theodoric, the Mausoleum of Theodoric and the Baptistery of the Arians.

From July 12th to August 9th Ravenna Bella di Sera returns, the event promoted by the Tourism service thanks to the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region that will liven up the summer evenings, with shows starting at 21.15 pm. This year too, two of the most evocative places in the city will be involved: Piazza San Francesco and the nearby Franciscan Cloisters.
The preview will be held on July 8 to the Ancient Franciscan Cloisters with “The Madness of the Red Priest”, as part of the exhibition Le stelle di Galla Placidia. On July 12th, Danza sotto le stelle is scheduled in Piazza San Francesco.
On 15 July Arrigo Sacchi will present his book “The visionary realist”, in the setting of Piazza San Francesco, while on the 16th the Corelli association offers a concert for silent string orchestra and solo trumpet entitled Silent Experience in Piazza San Francesco.
For the Stars of Galla Placidia on 17 July, in Piazza San Francesco, the Morrigan's Wake will perform Celtic melodies, while on the 18th at the Antichi Chiostri Francescani the Trio Albatros will perform Medaglie Antiche.
On July 19th in Piazza San Francesco a tribute to Puccini, on the 20th at the Ancient Franciscan Cloisters the Trio Opera Viwa proposes From classical to jazz.
The July 22 Divertissement with the wind ensemble of the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of music is scheduled in Piazza San Francesco, organized by the Amici della Capit.
July 23rd, on the occasion of the Patron Saint, the concert of the city band, entitled Not(t)e di Sant'Apollinare, will be held in Piazza San Francesco.
On 24 July the exhibition Le Stelle di Galla Placidia continues with Cinematographic Armonies: Italian Notes, in Piazza San Francesco.
On July 25th the Accademia del Melo Silvestre Aps proposes in Piazza San Francesco “Sounds and words: an informal symposium under the moon” with the performance of the baritone Raffaello Bellavista and the reciting voice of Gianni Parimiani.
Always for the review “The Stars of Galla Placidia” on July 26th in Piazza San Francesco there will be the Roberta Montanari Quartet, on July 29th at the Ancient Franciscan Cloisters Chopine, the Accanto room, on July 31st in Piazza San Francesco Gaber and Iannacci, the two Corsairs.
On August 1st the Friends of the Capit propose in Piazza San Francesco Here where the sea glitters. Lucio Dalla between music and words, with narration by Alessandro Braga and the participation of the Ensemble 4 marzo 43.
August 2nd in Piazza San Francesco is scheduled for the exhibition Le Stelle di Galla Placidia, “Arie d’Unione Ravenna meets Chichester”.
On August 3, the Accademia del Melo Silvestre proposes, in Piazza San Francesco, “Sounds and Words: an informal symposium under the moon” with a performance by Andrea Mingardi and the Rossoblues Brother Band.
Bandeandrè will perform on August 6th in Piazza San Francesco, with a tribute for the 25th anniversary of Fabrizio's death, concert by Pasticceria Palumbo.
Ravenna Bella di Sera ends with two concerts, in Piazza San Francesco, as part of the review Le Stelle di Galla Placidia, on August 7th with “Revival, stories and music from the legendary 70s and 80s” with the participation of the comedian Vito and on 9 August with “Voci dall'Oltre Oceano”.
