Florence: Scandicci Fair 2024 kicks off
Sustainable, safe, inclusive. Come back Scandicci Fair 2024, an event that has taken place in the heart of the city since 1866 and which this year will be staged 5 from October to 13 in the city center at free admission. The title of this edition is 'The Fair changes with you'. The inauguration took place today, Saturday 5 October at 11 am at the Square of the Resistance.
The event was presented in the 'Sassoli' Media Center of Palazzo del Pegaso by the secretary councilor of the Presidency Office of the Tuscan Assembly, Federica Fratoni, the regional councilor Fausto Merlotti, the mayor of the municipality of Scandicci, Claudia Sereni, the deputy mayor Yuna Kashi Zadeh e Dario Dino-Guide, project manager of Lucca Comics & Games.
“I am happy to present this Fair that I love very much, like many Tuscans. A long-running Fair, but absolutely full of commitment and perspective”, she says Federica Fratoni. “The theme is very current: sustainability, environmental, but also social and economic”.
The councilor Fausto Merlotti reflects on the importance of this event, "which accompanies the change of the city of Scandicci and has always involved people. It is at its 158th edition, it calls more than 300 thousand people in the space of nine days, it has the capacity to innovate and renew itself".
After a few years, the Fair returns to its traditional location: that is, it returns to move closer towards Piazza Togliatti (red square) and along the tram network (De André and Resistance stops), enveloping and involving the commercial realities of the nearby streets and squares. Around 300 thousand people expected in the space of nine days, over an area that extends for 20 thousand square meters with 300 companies involved and the many pavilions along the perimeter.
In addition to the traditional pavilions, including “Living in the house” for furniture and furnishings of approximately 5 thousand square meters, also two new areas: 'Gola Gioconda', which takes its name from the online magazine that the Fair has been running for a few years and which deals with food and wine, with activities, meetings and events to discuss this important sector. And then 'Green Areas', a stand curated by the Municipal Administration of Scandicci and focused on the theme of sustainability that is environmental, social and economic. The main theme of this new edition.
The pavilions are also present 'Automotive and sustainable mobility", "Expo area", "The Street Food Garden", "Agricultural machinery, commercial and industrial vehicles', and the restaurants located throughout the fair area.
Square of the Resistance, then, will see the setting up of a large sports village completely renovated compared to the past, with many activities that everyone can access to test themselves in the various disciplines. Here you will find, among others, a Padel court, a Pickleball court, an 8-meter climbing wall, bike paths set up by the Italian Cycling Federation and much more.
Inside the Fair there is also the new stand of the Territorial Association (in via Pascoli) and PascolArt, a street art expo curated by The Sign Comics & Arts Accademy and SKIM.
Big news is 'Ludo at the Fair', the weekend (October 5th and 6th, free admission) dedicated to the inclusive and intergenerational board game created by Lucca Comics & Games and supported by Unicoop Firenze and the Municipality of Scandicci.
This year's is "a Fair that closes a cycle of recent years Claudia Sereni, mayor of Scandicci, says that, rich in important innovations especially from a cultural, sporting, social point of view, but that returns to look towards the city center, relocating along the pedestrian axis. We will ask, through a survey administered by the Associations present at the Fair, opinions and ideas of our citizens on the Fair of the future. Great attention also to our young people, thanks to the presence of Lucca Comics, which has accepted the challenge of holding a first Festival of the game in the Auditorium within this edition, and with the prominence of street art along via Pascoli. In the same way we have decided to relaunch the theme of sport, setting up real areas and giving the possibility of trying different disciplines. Even the stand of the associations in via Pascoli, together with Farmanet, give a prominence back to the various city areas. It will be a prelude edition for a relaunch of the relationship between the Fair and the City that we will see in the coming years".
“This year the Fair wants to send a clear and significant message: 'The Fair changes with you' – adds the deputy mayor Yuna Kashi Zadeh – This title represents our desire to make the event not only a moment of celebration, but a shared experience that evolves together with the community, reflecting the values of sustainability, safety and inclusiveness. The Fair has received Legambiente certification for environmental and social sustainability. We want this Fair to be an event open and accessible to all, capable of involving not only companies and exhibitors, but also the social and commercial fabric of our city. Scandicci Fiera 2024 is not only an event to celebrate trade and traditions, but also an opportunity to reflect on the future we want to build together”.
Dario Dino-Guide, project manager of Lucca Comics & Games, illustrates the collaboration with the Scandicci Fair with the figure of Sergio Staino, "for a free archive accessible to all. Then - he adds -, with an important partnership also with Unicoop, there will be two free days of play for everyone. For us these are opportunities for stimulation, which allow us to develop the network in the territories".
