Florence: Hate speech and gender violence, the “TrasFormare” project at Lucca Comics
Over 300 students from Tuscany (mainly art institutes and art high schools) were involved in the training course to combat gender violence and hate speech. At this year's Lucca Comics & Games they will be the protagonists and will illustrate the graphic works they have created.
An event of great cultural, social and educational value strongly desired by the Region, first and foremost the Tuscan commission for equal opportunities. "The project - says the president Francesca Basanieri – is the result of collaboration with the Region, in particular the councilor Alessandra Nardini, Corecom Toscana, IMT Lucca, Lucca Crea and the regional school office together with the International School of Comics of Florence and the Anti-Violence Centers”.
The aim of the training course, which is part of the wider project 'TrasFormare. Actions to combat male violence against women in the education system', “telling about violence and how to defend ourselves through the eyes and tools of young people, comics, storytelling, graphic novels, so that the messages are more immediate and understandable” he explains Basanieri “Unfortunately, we have seen from the news in recent days that violence is affecting increasingly younger girls. Our will is to raise awareness among the new generations on these issues and to make sure that the message gets across that girls should not suffer, they are not alone in managing harmful and toxic relationships. And we did it with their language".
The meeting is at 10 am at the Guinigi Chapel (Via della Quarquonia, 1/a). The presentation will be attended by, in addition to the president, Basanieri, Alessandra Nardini regional councilor for education and gender policies; Marco Meacci president of the Tuscan Committee for Communications; Alessandra Papa of the Regional School Office; Martha Chestnut manager of Office IX, territorial area of Lucca and Massa Carrara; Alessio D'Uva director of the International School of Comics in Florence; Agnes Ghezzi researcher in history and theory of photography at the IMT Alti Studi Lucca School.
