Urban Trekking in Chieti, 21st Edition
Chieti: 21st edition of Urban Trekking, “Nature as art: memory, artifice, landscape”
All ready for 21st edition of Urban Trekking, which on October 31st will come to life in the cultural and historical places of the city. The theme of this year's event that the Municipality of Chieti is organizing directly, through its adherence to the format of the Municipality of Siena, is “Nature as art: memory, artifice, landscape”. The presentation conference with the deputy mayor and councilor for Culture Paul of Caesar, the archaeologist Serafino Ferreri and Niko Di Benedetto.
“An event that each time gives us glimpses of the ancient and unpublished history of the city – comments the deputy mayor and councilor for Culture and Tourism, Paolo De Cesare – . Also for this edition Chieti will be the protagonist and present in the national program of the Urban Trekking Day conceived by the Municipality of Siena, we have built an exciting path, “Walking is wonderful”, conceived together with two young driving forces of the event such as the creative Niko Di Benedetto and the archaeologist Serafino Ferreri, who have prepared an appointment at zero cost for the institution, donating their professionalism to the city. A special cultural adventure is renewed, as well as experiential, divided this year into four visits through the medieval identity of the city.
A path to be discovered at a slow pace, the one required by the Day, which includes the participation of about a hundred Italian Municipalities, from the large regional capitals to the small villages. This is also the occasion to test a project shared with Niko Di Benedetto and his agency, Chieti Welcome, which includes info points and corner points to make the city accessible for tourism also through an additional technological tool, which thanks to an app will open the doors of the city. I invite everyone to pay attention to this event and to book for the stages still available”.
“Every citizen should contribute to the knowledge of his own city – so Niko DiBenedetto -. Our project enhances the city, enhances the people who should in turn enhance the city's cultural heritage.. The trek was an opportunity to test the platform that will be developed with Chieti Welcome and it worked because we have sold out almost all the visits planned for the Day”.
“With my colleague archaeologist Miguel Davide we realized how a specialized approach is needed to get to know the city – the archaeologist explained Serafino Ferreri – We will show the public something beautiful, what emerged from our research on Chieti and in preview, that is, before it becomes one of our publications. Trekking is a physical and beneficial activity, we will leave a trace of the route of the 31st also with an online map, so that the route can be used all year round: there are 16 stopping points, with the medieval and Renaissance city as the protagonist: Piazza Garibaldi, a visit to the place where the Capuchin bastions were located; a visit to Largo Moricorvo, to the Torre Muraria, to the Trinità where we will see on historical maps the church with the towers and everything that was demolished, we will see the Civitella bastions and in Via Napoli, in a private place, we will see some medieval city walls.
In Piazza San Giustino we will revive the old Porta Zunica, later Porta Colle Gallo, and then move on to Porta Santa Maria in the neighborhood of the same name, the entrance to the city that was added after Porta Pescara, Porta San Giovanni, Porta de Nuculis and Porta Sant'Angelo, the four gates that gave the city its name and that are symbolized by the 4 keys on the banner. There will also be the opportunity to see a work of art by one of our citizens Stefanio Fagnano, artist and creator of a mural made in charcoal. It will be a tour to learn and appreciate even more the history and culture of Teatina".
