“Capitalist Realism, Banksy: art in the absence of utopias”, the exhibition of the famous street artist arrives in Lecce.

The famous exhibition “Capitalist Realism, Banksy: art in the absence of utopias” comes to Lecce. From Tuesday 20 June until Saturday 30 September in the exhibition space of City Walls will be available to the public one selection of over 50 works, materials and documents by the British artist. Banksy is a street artist known for his sarcastic and mocking style. His art criticizes capitalism, war, social control and inequality. Promoted by the City of Lecce, the exhibition is curated by Antonelli & Marziani, produced and organized by A&M Cultural Consulting in collaboration with SAM Museo delle Arti e delle Espressioni Urbane and Mediafarm.

A selection of works known throughout the world for their explosive power and for their transversal, political and social messages, capable of interpreting the complex reality of our times with the quick and intuitive features of street art. An exhibition of meticulous analysis of the most relevant phenomenon in the art of our liquid time. In Lecce the works will not only be "seen" but will "open" to a series of contents and themes that highlight the moral value of the messages, the political strength of the ironic but disruptive statements, the impact of its protagonists who seem to be the " actors” of a pop story and who, on the contrary, are affirming the value of freedom and equality in a society too conditioned by the power of money.

A collection of original works and documents will allow spectators to enter the contemporary world through the gaze of an author who has been crossing the world cultural scene for over twenty years now, showing a great ability to stay in the midst of the present. The exhibition “Capitalist Realism, Banksy: art in the absence of utopias” is the outcome of an independent scientific, critical and interpretative project, conceived, curated and financed outside the artist's sphere of influence. Banksy was not involved in the conception and planning of the exhibition and did not provide support or works, which come from the SAM | Museum of Arts and Urban Expressions.

The exhibition project, texts and images of the catalogue, every work, document or material present in the exhibition, have been supervised, verified for accuracy and authenticity, and approved on behalf of Banksy by Pest Control Office ltd. The inauguration is scheduled for Tuesday 20 June at 18.30 pm. They will participate in the inauguration Carlo Salvemini, mayor of Lecce; Fabiana Cicirillo, Councilor for Culture, Enhancement of Cultural Heritage, Public Education of the Municipality of Lecce; Stefano Antonelli and Gianluca Marziani, curators of the exhibition e Daniele Carratta for Mediafarm.
