Campobasso, SERR 2022: the first "Non-Hostile Benches" installed in Parco dei Pini.

In the rich calendar of activities that the Environment Department of the Municipality of Campobasso has planned on the occasion of the European Week for Waste Reduction, has found the right place of prominence too the installation of two of the 10 "Non Hostile" benches, made with recycled materials, by the "Bottega del Legno" Educational Laboratory of the Unified Social Educational Centers (CSEU) 'G. Palmieri and Peter Pan', as part of a shared administration project with the Municipality of Campobasso.

The benches were installed at the dog walking area of ​​Parco dei Pini. Also present at the event were the mayor of Campobasso, Robert Gravina, and the Environment Councilor, Simone Cretella.

Following the idea that the way of communicating is very important to have good relationships, the CSEU have chosen to adhere to the Non-Hostile Communication Manifesto of the Parole Ostili association.

Each bench created will have an artistic reference to one of the 10 principles of the manifesto, in the hope of promoting a healthy and, indeed, non-hostile communication style. The benches created will be installed on a monthly basis in green areas of the city.

“Making the work and ideas of the children of the Unified Social Educational Centers (CSEU) visible and at the same time useful to the entire city community 'G. Palmieri and Peter Pan', – declared Mayor Gravina – it is an integral part of a broader dimension of social inclusion that Campobasso is assiduously cultivating in every sector. Being able to stimulate their ability to express themselves by always designing new paths to expand personal skills is what the managers and operators of the CSEU carry out on a daily basis, through a methodological commitment that leaves nothing to chance. In fact, even in this case – underlined the mayor – the educational opportunity was thought of as closely related to the symbolic enunciation of the points of the Non-Hostile Communication Manifesto, making concrete that taking care of the public good personally, as positive and active protagonists, contributing to the furnishing of urban parks.”

The benches were created at the CSEU G. Palmieri and Peter Pan where various occupational laboratories are active, including that of Bottega del Legno, where users can experiment with their manual and creative skills, particularly useful for people with disabilities as they contribute to the maintenance and acquisition of personal skills, promote group collaboration and stimulate the ability to express oneself. The material used in the Bottega laboratory is mainly recycled wood found through a social network.
