Campobasso, new appointment at the Circolo Sannitico of the "Living with care" event.
“Olla Community of the Gift – Humanism and culture of sharing abundance in southern Italy”. This is the theme of the new event of the exhibition “Living with care”, scheduled Tuesday December 13 at Samnite Circle a Campobasso, At 18.30.
Exceptional speaker will be Dr. Giovanni Canora, naturopath, co-founder of the chair Unesco di Salerno and president of Salerno Medical School Study Center, with a contribution from Prof. Bruno Paura, Professor of Botany ofUniversity of Molise.
Spontaneous solidarity in rural societies, particularly in southern Italy, has always ensured forms of mutual help and sharing, especially of food, also motivated by the awareness that “gifts” of Terra, Mother Nature, they had to be honored precisely with social sharing. The feeling "sacred" that the Earth was generous with gifts for subsistence implied both the community's recognition of Mother Earth's generosity and the need to share with those who had less availability of food. Sharing which, as recognition of the abundance of Mother Earth, becomes a harbinger of abundance for the next harvests.
Hence the custom of leaving food in an "Olla", a terracotta vase, as a gift for the needy of the community such as the poor, the elderly, the weak, the sick; not leftovers, but the fruits of the Earth to be offered spontaneously, a sort of tithe, in gratitude for the gift of abundance.
Gift without waiting for a return, or barter, even non-contextual and equal, which characterized rural culture until the first half of the last century. This socio-cultural value has characterized human culture in various areas of our peninsula and the world, defined as “community of gift”. A model of humanity that should be revived and valorised compared to the current competitive socio-economic models which increasingly fuel consumerist, selfish and self-centred feelings and above all diseconomies with areas of hyper-consumerism and others of poverty and famine.
The Gift Economy can become a real one “brand” socio-cultural which can act as a driving force for the valorisation and a new vision of the development of the territory and bring together hospitality, hospitality, activities, typical products, archeology and nature in a single container.
