Campobasso, a new look for the palm trees in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II

Work on the "palme grove" in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II has been completed.

Campobasso, a new look for the palm trees in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II.

“In recent days, - as the Councilor for the Environment of the Municipality of Campobasso, Simone Cretella, said - thanks to the intervention of the green sector of Sea Servizi e Ambiente, an important maintenance intervention has allowed the four plants to return to the right and characteristic polycormic habit, altered over time by the irregular growth of leaf and shoot bushes.”

There are four groups of 'dwarf' palms present in the flowerbeds around the 'fishpond', planted about a century ago, testifying to the great attention of the gardeners of the time also to the varieties and ornamental value of the essences chosen to furnish the squares and gardens of the Municipality of Campobasso.

The dwarf or "St. Peter" palm (Chamaerops humilis), typical of the Mediterranean/Tyrrhenian climate, although not strictly native, has adapted well to the harsh climatic conditions of Campobasso and is now, in the collective imagination, an integral and irreplaceable part of the decoration of the square.
