Caltanissetta: Serradifalco Performare Festival kicks off, from 28 June to 8 June, eleven days dedicated to contemporary dance
Performances, workshops, meetings and creative residencies in the presence of important national and international artists
Caltanissetta: Serradifalco Performare Festival kicks off, from 28 June to 8 June, eleven days dedicated to contemporary dance.
Un program full of events for this event conceived and directed by Simona Miraglia and Amalia Borsellino of the SicilyMade Collective, produced by the In Arte Association and which has the support of the Ministry of Culture, Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment of the Sicilian Region and the Municipality of Serradifalco.
Al center of the Performare action there is the contemporary dance and artistic research, with shows, creative residencies, workshops and in-depth meetings. In addition to the shows, the program includes a section dedicated to research and training: Performare Project, divided into different categories.
Among guests, artists and companies of relevance national and international, but also talented emerging local talents: Zappalà Danza Company, Virgilio Sieni Company, Jurij Konjar, German Jauregui & Antia Diaz Otero, Nello Calabrò, Giovanna Velardi, Civil Ballet, Chiara Ameglio/Fattoria Vittadini, Noemi Bresciani/Fattoria Vittadini, Giorgia Briguglio,, Melania Caggegi & Agnese Canicattì, Nicola Simone Cisternino, Collettivo SicilyMade, Silvia Oteri, Maria Stella Pitarresi & Marco Pergallini, Priscilla Pizzol & Edoardo Sgambato, Delfina Stella, Rosada Letizia Zangrì.
The festival, Wednesday 28 June at 19.30pm, will be inaugurated by the presentation of the book “Missteps – Dramaturgy as an investigative method"of Nello Calabrò scheduled at Villa Comunale Livatino. In addition to the author, the choreographer Roberto Zappalà will speak and will be moderated by the theater critic Tiziana Bonsignore, who will also curate the TeCLAB, a vision and writing workshop created by the Teatroecritica newspaper and hosted by the Dynamic Narrations section of Performare Project.
Following, to 20.30, It will take place Performative Speech: The Faun (production Scenario Pubblico /Compagnia Zappalà Danza in co-production with MILANoLTRE Festival). From an idea by Roberto Zappalà and Nello Calabrò, this research is designed for alternative spaces and anticipates a larger project that will see its conclusion in 2024, with the staging of a single creative design that will combine the Après-midi d'un faune with Ravel's Bolero and Stravinsky's Sacre du printemps.
Al Square pm 21.30 Jurij Konjar will present his choreography in the national premiere MOVEMENTWORD (prior to languagedance). Jurij Konjar is a Slovenian dancer and choreographer born in Ljubljana, trained in London and Brussels. His thirty-year research is currently focusing on the theme of improvisation.
Thursday 29 June la Piazzetta San Leonardo Abate pm 19.00 it will be the starting point of the performance WALK AROUND, curated by Jurij Konjar in collaboration with Collettivo SicilyMade. There performance and the final return of Creation and Research, Performare Project's journey on the body and language of the contemporary directed by Konjar, dedicated to the relationship with the community and the host place.
At 21.00 il Piazzale Teatro Comunale A. De Curtis host AMANDINA (produced by Fattoria Vittadini), by Noemi Bresciani dedicated to a public from 3 years old. A hymn to shyness and loneliness as ingredients of the creative and performative act. The artist will also lead a workshop for the KIDS section of Performare Project, intended for couples of parents and children aged 3 and up.
Friday 30 June il Remembrance Park will host at hours 18.00pm presentation of the book Cronicario by Dario Tomasello: a poetic performance by Latitudini with Dario Tomasello (voice) and Francesca Bongiovanni (cello).
Following, at 19.00 pm, 19.30 pm and 20.00 pm EACH PART EACH PLACE - body languages edited by Silvia Oteri, outcome of the Next Generation section of Performare Project dedicated to the training of students of the Liceo Coreutico “R. Settimo” of Caltanissetta. During this journey, led by Oteri, the participants yes they will compare MoDem Language, created by Roberto Zappalà. The protagonists of the final performance will be the young participants in the workshop together with Silvia Oteri and Melania Caggegi.
At 21.30pm the square of the A. De Curtis Municipal Theatre It will take place the meeting with Nello Calabrò "Thresholds and crossings: gesture and dance”, a personal journey between films and cinema.
Saturday 1st July at the Quadrato pm 19.30pm MEMENTO is scheduled by and with Stella Pitarresi, Marco Pergallini (production Twain_Centro Produzione Danza). The performance is a consideration on the fleeting nature of life and its pleasures, and on the need to return to spaces already lived in to stay alive. The Pergallini/Pitarresi duo, born in 2020, will also lead a masterclass intended for local dancers.
Il Piazzale Teatro Comunale A. De Curtis at 21.00 pm host Priscilla Pizziol and Edoardo Sgambato with the performance AMELIA, a praise to fragility, an invitation to immerse yourself in the dimension of memory and let yourself be crossed by the sense of emptiness that comes from its loss. The work is part of the projects selected for “Approach to a creation process”, the workshop-residence of the section of the festival that investigates the forms of the creative act, in collaboration with the Marosi Festival of Stromboli, partner of Performare. Pizziol and Sgambato, associated authors of Zerogrammi, will also lead a masterclass aimed at local dancers.
At 21.30 pm it will be the turn of the SicilyMade Collective, associate artist of Scenario Pubblico, with FEMALE ESCAPE | THE THREE OF US, concept, choreography, performers Amalia Borsellino, Silvia Oteri, Marta Greco (production: IN ARTE / CSM). The performance is part of the Festival's “Approach to a Creation Process” project. In the mix of gestural and verbal language, it creates the conditions for an escape from the clichés in which the feminine is caged.
Sunday 2 July the A. De Curtis Municipal Theater pm 16.30pm will host the meeting with the journalist and critic Tiziana Bonsignore on the topic "New dimensions. the Festival space”, an open debate on dance and territory, with the TeCLAB participants. During the meeting, the screening of the finalist films of La Danza in 1 minuti Z Generation Edition 2023, curated by COORPI, will take place.
At 21.00 pm the Piazzale Teatro Comunale A. De Curtis will host one show designed for the little ones but which will also involve adults: CLOWN by Giovanna Velardi (PinDoc production). Historic show by the Giovanna Velardi Company, which this year celebrates its 15 years of performances. Through the expression of linguistic plurality and clowning, the show allows the typical traits of a couple's relationship to emerge: the effort to communicate, the tenderness, the antics, the nastiness. The artist will also lead a masterclass intended for local dancers.
From 3 to 8 July the residency of will take place Antia Diaz Otero and German Jauregui, with their workshop-residency Approach to a Creation Process, intended for emerging authors guests of the festival. Antia Diaz Otero is a choreographer and dancer, trained at the University of Brussels; German Jauregui is a choreographer and historical dancer in the Ultima Vez / Wim Vandekeybus company, with which he worked for over ten years and, subsequently, as assistant and rehearsal director.
It will take place on Thursday 6 July, within the section Kids by Performare Project, laboratory "The tactile gaze” condotto Delfina Stella, dancer of the Virgilio Sieni Company, collaborator of the choreographer and educator, who will lead the young spectators, through concrete experience, to the viewing of the Blind Dance show scheduled for the following day.
Il Square of the A. De Curtis Municipal Theater host two works by young Sicilian authors and dancers select for “Approach to a creation process": at 21.00 pm the national premiere of SYMBIOSIS, by Melania Caggegi and Agnese Canicattì. The choreography won a Performare Festival production award awarded in the last edition of Teatri Riflessi. TO follow, at 21.30 pm Giorgia Briguglio will be the protagonist of DEAR ISLAND, a project born on the island of Stromboli as part of the MAROSI Festival: the encounter with the island-volcano, in June 2022, provoked an urgency in the artist regarding physical and linguistic research.
Friday 7 July the Villa Comunale R. Livatino pm 19.30pm will host LINGUA by and with Chiara Ameglio (production Fattoria Vittadini | Festival DanzaInrete), which recently won the Anticorpi XL network award, a network that promotes young art dance. Show that focuses on the dialogue between performer and spectator, selected by Performare as part of "Approach to a Creation Process".
At 21.00 pm, the “G. Guttilla” di serradifalco will host the regional premiere of the Compagnia Virgilio Sieni with the performance BLIND DANCE (Production of the Matera-Basilicata Foundation 2019, Compagnia Virgilio Sieni). Virgilio Sieni and the blind dancer Giuseppe Comuniello they are protagonists of a duet on tactility, with live music by Spartaco Cortesi. Listening, tenuity, space, play and ritual, power of waiting, cracking of matter, inexhaustible source of gestures, dark parts of movement, glow in detail, welcoming of a friend, opening of the gaze: postures and approaches that transform the body into a inexhaustible atlas of democratic places.
In evening of Saturday 8 July il Vicolo Caico at 19.30 pm host Nicola Simone Cisternino with its site-specific project created for Performare Festival 2023 as part of the residency “Landscape and Community”. His performance, from the title CAICO ALLEY, is a Twain_Centro di Produzione Danza production.
Il Square of the A. De Curtis Municipal Theater pm 21.00 will host the preview of HEARTBEAT, first study by Rosada Letizia Zangrì/Collettivo SicilyMade. Performers Amalia Borsellino, Carmelangela Damico, Annalisa Di Lanno, Marta Greco, in collaboration with Performare Festival 2023 as part of “Approach to a creation process”.
Finally, to close the fifth edition of the Festival, always at Square of the De Curtis Municipal Theatre 21.30 hours, the show in its regional premiere IN. LANDSCAPETERNI (Ballet Civile production), danced and created by Emanuela Serra, Alessandro Pallecchi, Giulia Spattini, Francesco Gabrielli. In this performance the stage is the street, the scene is an interior, a table and two chairs, like an island to land on. Bodies compared in rhythmic dance scores.
