Caltanissetta: International Street Food, from 15th to 17th November

From 15 to 17 November 2024 it will take place in Caltanissetta – and for the first time in Sicily – the travelling culinary event “International Street Food”. A “taste lounge” that It will spread scents in the air that will evoke customs and traditions from all over the world and will allow you to taste delicious sweet and savoury dishes.

This traveling event is part of a long tour that crosses all of Italy and has already been welcomed by numerous Italian squares and, for his arrival in Sicily, he accepted the invitation of Caltanissetta. Common thread of International Street Food is the quality, the excellence of the raw materials, the guarantee of tradition that blends with the search for originality.

“We strongly wanted this event to take place in Caltanissetta to demonstrate how our city can be a hub that welcomes excellence – commented the councilor Guido Delpopolo – and, at the same time, exploit the centrality of our city to facilitate all those who, coming from other Sicilian provinces, will want to participate in this event over the course of three days”.

To enrich the event, chand will take place in Viale Regina Margherita, Confartigianato has organized a trade fair for artisans at Villa Amedeo, featuring local products of excellence.

The event, which this year alone has planned 150 stages, offers the opportunity to live a unique gastronomic experience with free admission, with the best national and international street food.

“International Street Food is a comfortable, inviting and relaxing place where you can experience the city center with refined flavors; discovering a journey within the walls of the most beautiful Italian cities to discover and rediscover the genuine flavours of poor but tasty products – explained the organizers of the event conceived and organized Alfredo Orofino, entrepreneur and president of the Italian Association of Street Restaurateurs (AIRS) -. Men and women who opened their shops every day, with their history made of secret recipes, with their humanity and creativity, today have transferred their shops on wheels and are part of our tasty caravan. The protagonists of the Salotto del Gusto are around 30 truck-shops that defend their street foods with stubbornness and pride.

They knead, fry, boil, bake, roast as if they were within the walls of their original laboratories, thus maintaining their passion for good food. All it takes is water, flour, oil and tomato to create many specialties such as macaroni and pizza, symbols of Italian cuisine born as street food, and New York with its Hot dog carts, Istanbul with its Kebab kiosks or the creperies on the boulevards of Paris are the symbolic places of Street Food. To stay in Italy, it is enough to remember that in Naples, on the public street, they ate macaroni and pizza a portafoglio, in Valle d'Aosta polenta with Arnad lard, in Liguria focaccia di Recco, farinata or Genoese panissa, in Emilia Romagna piadina or fried gnocco without forgetting the Ferrara pinzone.
