Cagliari: the Feminas 2024 calendar presented, Bodies and words
A rich program of events against violence against women was presented in Cagliari, from November 25th to March 8th, to promote gender equality and inclusion.

The shared Calendar of was presented yesterday morning at the ExMa in Cagliari Feminas events 2024 – Bodies and words. The public awareness initiative against violence, promoted by the Department and the Commission for Equal Opportunities of the Municipality of Cagliari, will extend until March 8, 2025. The press conference for the presentation was attended by the Councillor for Equal Opportunities, Giulia Andreozzi, and the councilor for Health and the well-being of citizens, Anna Puddu, who illustrated the objectives and details of this initiative.
"Feminas 2024 – Bodies and Words ideally unites the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25 with International Women's Day on March 8. Because there is no fight against violence if there is no gender equality“. Therefore, it represents an “extraordinary opportunity” to promote a “choral reflection” on the theme of women's rights, giving voice to different experiences and sensibilities through a “rich and varied calendar”, to contribute to “building a more inclusive and aware community”, involving all citizens.
The Councilor Puddu he underlined the importance of “networking”, which made the Feminas project possible: “Everything new compared to the past”. Thanks to an intense collaboration with associations, schools and cultural entities in the area, "the aim of this municipal administration is to ensure that the celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is not just a sporadic event, but which translates into the implementation of integrated daily political actions of prevention, with cultural paths aimed at everyone, to promote the culture of respect, reciprocity and equal opportunities".
This is the context in which the Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment and operation in the territory of Sardinia of the Regional Anti-Violence Network and the Local Territorial Anti-Violence Networks falls, recently signed by Councillor Puddu for the Municipality of Cagliari, with representatives of the Region. As provided for by the Istanbul Convention, or the Council of Europe Convention, "aimed at providing concrete answers, ways out of situations of violence in which so many women find themselves".
The Feminas 2024 – Bodies and Words programme includes a wide range of events, including theatre performances, conferences, film screenings, book presentations, exhibitions, training courses and creative workshops.
Among the most significant initiatives, the “Red Thread March against Violence against Women” this morning, Friday 22 November, stands out. The procession, which started at 9.30 from Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and ended in Piazza Garibaldi, represents a central moment of the awareness campaign, with testimonies and a flash mob. All the merchants of the Consorzio Corso Vittorio Emanuele and the Strada facendo association who have joined the initiative, display a red element in their windows as a symbol of participation and commitment.
Monday, November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, will be particularly lively. Among the many initiatives in the morning, the delivery of publications on gender equality to the city schools by Councilor Andreozzi is scheduled. While in the afternoon the unveiling of the work “Penelope's Scream”, created in calligraphy art with the names of the victims of femicide from 2006 to 2021, at 16.30:18 p.m. in the courtyard of honor of Palazzo Bacaredda. At XNUMX p.m., extraordinary city council meeting that will address the issue of violence against women: the associations Donna ceteris, Donne al cantiere and the equality councilors of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari are invited to the open participatory session.
The calendar will end symbolically on March 8, 2025, on the occasion of International Women's Day, with three final events that will celebrate the results of the journey undertaken. “We hope that this initiative can leave a lasting mark on our community,” said Councilor Andreozzi. “We want Feminas to become an annual event, capable of inspiring new generations and promoting change.”
Also present at the press conference this morning on Friday 22 November 2024 were Councilor Corrado Sorrentino, municipal manager Manuela Atzeni and two officers representing the Cagliari Local Police Force, actively involved in the planned initiatives. Many representatives of the social and cultural realities of the territory.
