Brescia, Peace Festival: three events to reflect on war, education and the humanitarian crisis in Africa.
Does peace have to do with education?
Delving into the life of Vittorino Chizzolini the answer can only be positive: education is awareness and empathy with those who are weaker.
The exhibition on Vittorino Chizzolini “Education as a path to peaceand” will be inaugurated on Tuesday 12 November, at 17 pm at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Corridoio Montini, in via Trieste 17, promoted by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in collaboration with the Giuseppe Tovini Foundation. The exhibition will be open from 12 to 28 November from Monday to Friday from 8.30 to 18.30.
The exhibition aims to present the life and work of Vittorino Chizzolini (1907-1984), one of the main exponents of Italian pedagogy of the twentieth century, through documents from the "Historical Collections" of the Catholic University of Brescia and the Archive of the Tovini Foundation. Photographs, letters, notes, tickets: Chizzolini's profound humanity shines through in every piece of his writing, and his educational vocation and tireless care for the weakest emerge. Vittorino Chizzolini, following the initiation of the cause for canonization, is now a Servant of God. Free admission.
Does war have rules?
Can the killing of unarmed civilians, of religious people, be considered a legitimate act of war?
What is a war crime?
The Debre Libanòs massacre in Ethiopia in 1937 It is one of those episodes that questions consciences. On Tuesday 12 November, at 11 am at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in via Trieste 17, there will be a presentation of Paolo Borruso's book "Debre Libanòs fra storia e memoria – Il più grave crimine di guerra dell'Italia". The event is intended not only to present an important volume in the Italian and international cultural panorama, but also to propose, on the occasion of the Peace Festival dedicated to Africa, a broader reflection on historical memory as the foundation of that culture of peace that has emerged in our country since the Second World War onwards.
In conversation with the author: Alessandra Del Boca, full professor of Economic Policy at the University of Brescia, and Antonio Morone, associate professor of Contemporary African History and coordinator of the Degree Course in African and Asian Studies at the University of Pavia. Free admission
The humanitarian crisis in the Sahel, with the forced displacement of millions of people due to the exploitation of natural resources, This is the topic discussed in the round table "Africa in turmoil" promoted by Medicus Mundi Italia, in collaboration with the Luigi Lucchini University College of Brescia, scheduled for Tuesday 12 November, at 18 pm in the Auditorium of the Luigi Lucchini University College, in via Valotti 3.
The consequences of the current global geopolitical situation have repercussions above all on the most fragile contexts and the most vulnerable people. Africa is the region where poverty, climate emergencies, exploitation of land and natural resources, political corruption, unequal distribution of resources, most easily lead to crises and internal conflicts. The Sahel, one of the poorest regions in the world, has seen a rapid deterioration in the situation in recent years.
They will talk with Anna Della Moretta, journalist, Michele Brunelli, University of Bergamo and Catholic University of Brescia, Massimo Chiappa, Director of Medicus Mundi Italia, and Alberto Bigi, Coordinator of Emergency and Resilience Activities of FAO in Africa.
Free admission.
