Bologna: Villa Ghigi Park celebrates 50 years
Bologna fills with walks, music and a planting to celebrate the hilly park, hit by recent floods, and to reflect on climate change.
Bologna: Villa Ghigi Park celebrates 50 years.
On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the birth of the Villa Ghigi park, opened to the public in 1974, tomorrow, Saturday 23 November, an initiative is planned, organized in collaboration with the IU Rusconi Ghigi Foundation, to celebrate this important milestone.
The appointment is for 10.30, meeting at the two main entrances to the park: the Norma Mascellani Garden along via San Mamolo (Tper line 29 stop) and the car park along via di Gaibola (high entrance).
The walk will reach the panoramic ridge, where at 11.30 a greeting is planned by the mayor Matteo Lepore. Next, the planting of a young cypress tree, which will be placed near some centuries-old specimens of this species, which has always been linked to the landscape of the Bologna hills.
At 12, in the operational headquarters of the Foundation in the park, there will be a final moment of chatting, listening and collective dances to the tune of traditional music, once widespread in the Bolognese Apennines. Waterproof shoes with non-slip soles and comfortable clothing are recommended.
The park was opened in 1974 by the will of the municipal administration which, in the mid-seventies, promoted urban planning policies aimed at protecting and enhance the natural and landscape heritage of the Bologna hills, creating a series of new hillside parks to serve all citizens.
As is known, the park was hit hard by the flood of October 19th and, like the whole of the Bologna hills, already bore the signs of the flood of May 2023. Even more so in this moment of difficulty, it is important to organize a collective moment that can also represent a precious opportunity to reflect, through different points of view, on the changes underway and the complex challenges we face today, starting from the long history that the park has behind it.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the park's birth, the IU Rusconi Ghigi Foundation has also decided to open a collective collection of photos, stories, thoughts, anecdotes and memories related to the park, here the details To partecipate.
