Sunday March 3 The third edition of the running event is scheduled Bologna Marathon which includes four routes calibrated for different distances: 42,195 km for the marathon, 30 km for the “30 km of the Portici”, 21 km for the XX edition of the Unipol Move Run Tune Up, Bologna's historic half marathon, as well as 097 km for the non-competitive Tecnocasa Bologna City Run, which includes the Run5, the great team of Third sector.

The route, starting from Via Indipendenza at 8.45 for the 21 km race, at 9.15 for the Maratona and 30 Km dei Portici, 10.15 for the 5 Km, foresees the arrival in Piazza Maggiore after crossing the eastern area of ​​the city and the historic center. After the first 8 km which develop entirely in the historic center of Bologna, the route will exit the Santo Stefano district, towards San Giacomo outside the walls.

Here the athletes will face approximately 20 km characterized by the Savena and San Donato – Vitale districts, to finally return from Corticella and along the Bolognina, towards the Porto-Saragozza district and the center.

In connection with the event, specific traffic measures have been adopted with bans on vehicular transit which concern the time slot 7.30-15.30.
Emergency vehicles, official service vehicles following the event and vehicles accessing private property are excluded from the ban. The closures will be coordinated by local police officers.

The following road routes will always be passable:

from the south: Via Murri, Via Molinelli, Via Castiglione coming from the hill up to the avenue, Via San Mamolo
from the east: Via Altura coming from San Lazzaro di Savena, Via Emilia Levante up to the Rotonda decorated with Military Valor in Viale Vighi towards the ring road, Viale Lungo Savena, Via Po and Viale Lenin which will guarantee the connection with the ring road and other practicable routes , Via Massarenti which will guarantee the connection with the ring road and other viable routes.
from the north: Viale Europa, Via della Fiera and Viale Aldo Moro up to Via Stalingrado, Via Stalingrado which will guarantee the connection with the ring road and the other practicable routes, Via Di Corticella which will guarantee the connection with the ring road and the other practicable routes, Via Marco Polo, Via Zanardi
from the west: Via Marco Emilio Lepido axis, Via Emilia Ponente, Via Saffi, Via De Gasperi axis, Via Togliatti, Via Tolmino, Via Sabotino, Via Don Sturzo, Via Andrea Costa, Via Saragozza.

They will always be passable in both directions: Viale Gozzadini, Viale Panzacchi, Viale Aldini, Viale Pepoli, Viale Vicini, Viale Silvani, Viale Pietramellara (from Porta Lame to via Milazzo), Viale Ercolani, Viale Filopanti, Viale Berti Pichat, Viale Masini, Viale Carducci (before 8 and after 11).

Access to the Kiss & Ride car park at the railway station is guaranteed from Via Matteotti, Via Tiarini, Via Svampa.

Public transport

On Sunday 3 March, forty bus lines will be subject to route changes from 7.30am to 15.30pm due to the transit bans foreseen in many city streets during the running event.

The changes effective Sunday for public transport lines 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 33, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 51, 52, 60, 68, 81, 86, 88, 91, 93, 96, 97, 98, 99, 101, 356, 671, 677, 826 and 916 and for the replacement services, carried out by bus, of the Bologna-Portomaggiore and Bologna-Prato railways are already published and can also be consulted on the Tper website on the page www.tper.it/marathon2024.

For each line, details of the deviations are given by time slot which take into account the transit of the various scheduled competitions and involve measures including the division of the main urban lines into two branches due to the impracticability of the central section and some more limited cases of temporary suspension of service.

On the same page of the site dedicated to changes to the Tper lines, the maps of the stops most serving the historic center which will be active in conjunction with the event are also shown: these are those located in the Central Station area (Piazzale Medaglie d'Oro , viale Pietramellara, piazza XX Settembre) and in the first stretch of via Marconi and via Lame.

The measures adopted respond to the need to start diversions well in advance in order to free the streets affected by the transit of runners, to the need to guarantee connections with the city center as much as possible while avoiding too many changes in the route of the lines during the day, as well as ensuring a prompt resumption of the regularity of services as soon as ordinary traffic is allowed to be restored.

Users are advised to plan their journeys in advance, taking into consideration the bus diversions that Tper has already made public through its information channels to contain possible inconveniences.

Furthermore, on Sunday 3 March, those registered for the Bologna Marathon races will be able to travel for free on the entire public transport service in the Bologna metropolitan area (excluding the special fare lines) from the start of the service until 16pm.

To benefit from the discount, participants must show, in case of verification of travel documents, the bib certifying registration for the event.

Side events

Within the Bologna Marathon, numerous collateral events are planned.
BAND BO will bring 10 bands from across the region to perform along the marathon route during the race.

Furthermore, during the marathon weekend there will be 3 free tours, designed both for those who live in the city and for those visiting it for the first time, organized by “It only happens in Bologna”, including a special tour on the history of sport in the city: an itinerary that retraces the history of the Marathon and other memorable events which saw great athletes taking part, including fellow citizen Ondina Valla, Olympic sprinter and hurdler.

The morning of Saturday 2 March will be dedicated to girls and boys, with the first Tigotà Kids Marathon scheduled for 11am in Piazza Maggiore. But the party for the little ones will start first with the special training sessions Cecilia TataFitness and Six Seconds emotional intelligence games.
The mascots of this festive morning are the Luna Farm puppets, accompanied by the music of DJ Lopez from Radio Bruno.
Saturday afternoon will be a succession of presentations, meetings, moments of entertainment, music and even collective training, which will end at 19pm, the time in which, at the suggestive and nearby Church of San Giovanni Battista dei Celestini, the mass of the marathon runner.

Sport and culture come together on the occasion of the Bologna Marathon, offering sportsmen and women various cultural opportunities thanks to the initiative Marathon + Museums 2024.

By presenting the bib number, physically or in photos, of all the competitions of 2 and 3 March 2024 - Bologna Marathon, "30 Km dei Portici", UnipolMove RUN TUNE UP, Tecnocasa Bologna CityRun and the Tigotà Kids Marathon - at the museum checkouts - the marathon runners and marathon runners will be entitled to some concessions for themselves and two companions:

  • Free guided tours in Italian and English
  • a special welcome service in the rooms on Friday 1st, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd March in 7 museum locations
  • reduced entry, from Friday 1 March until Sunday 30 June 2024, in all Civic Museums (in addition to the 7 museums the reduction is also valid for the Municipal Art Collections)

Participating in the initiative are the Industrial Heritage Museum, the Civic Museum of the Risorgimento, the Monumental Cemetery of the Certosa, the Medieval Civic Museum, the MAMbo - Museum of Modern Art of Bologna, the Civic Archaeological Museum and the International Museum and Library of music.

There was also a strong focus on environmental sustainability and the ecological impact of the event which led to the identification of a strategy for waste reduction, waste collection and differentiation and the organization of a real Green Team, which actively involves LF23 – the non-profit organization La Fraternità.
The kids from the non-profit organization will also be involved in the #TiraLaFelpa initiative with the dual objective of reducing waste and giving concrete help to people at risk of marginalization.
The sweatshirt, but also other clothing worn by marathon runners before the start to keep warm, can be thrown into the special containers positioned on the starting line, to be part of the Circular Economy project "AND, A New Day", which intends to enhance the clothes used.
