Bibbiena, Arezzo: the Children's Book Festival from 19 February to 10 March.
A journey into the world of contemporary literature, with a careful look at junior readers and writers, through an engaging theme: “Narrating Generation 2.0: literary discoveries of today's young people”. This is the strength of the 2024 Children's Book Festival, which will be held in Bibbiena from 19 February to 10 March.
The event was presented in a press conference at the Sassoli Media Center in Palazzo del Pegaso. Speakers included Marco Casucci, vice president of the Tuscan Legislative Assembly, Filippo Vagnoli, mayor of Bibbiena; Francesca Nassini, councilor for culture, Katia Albertoni organizer of the Book Festival.
It will be an exploratory journey into the world of contemporary literature with a special focus on today's young people, the so-called Generation 2.0. This event is dedicated to discovering and discussing how books reflect the values, interests, passions, emotions, feelings and fears of young people. Through a series of workshops, readings and meetings with authors, it will be explored how young people find representation in the pages of books and how these narratives contribute to broadening their vision of the world. The festival will propose a variety of literary genres, from fiction to poetry, from graphic novels to essays, to show a complete overview of the different voices that tell the reality of youth. There will also be local authors who have had exceptional success such as Francesco Caremani who with "Ask the Dust" will meet high school kids on the topic of football and beyond.
“It is important to invest in reading and culture – said Marco Casucci, vice-president of the Regional Council – and the Bibbiena Festival explores various aspects related to reading: narrative, poetry, comics. Speaking to young people and students means thinking about the future. Bibbiena is carrying out an interesting project on photography and the Book Festival becomes another element for the cultural growth of the area. Being able to characterize oneself with specific features is the best way to carry forward a cultural festival of great significance and which leaves a profound mark on these territories.”
“It's a project that involves reading, books, the world of education with many events dedicated to younger people – explained Filippo Vagnoli, mayor of Bibbiena – and is now becoming a regional initiative. In the digital age the value of books and printed paper has been lost, with our festival we try to bring young people closer to reading, making them discover the richness of our literature and the world of publishing."
“The objective of the municipal administration is to introduce students to reading – added Francesca Nassini, councilor for culture of the Municipality of Bibbiena – and let's start by giving away books that address important issues, such as bullying and the constitution. The Book Festival has allowed us to make a further leap in quality, creating workshops that address central issues in our world together with children. We have involved the excellence of our territories by proposing highly topical themes, such as journalism, philosophy, comics. It is also significant to have used the various areas owned by the municipality, from the archaeological museum to the photography museum, from the theater to the cinema.”
“The Festival is aimed at a very varied audience of students: from zero to fifteen years old –explained Katia Albertoni, organizer of the festival – hosting important people who try to convey the values contained in books and reading. Our attempt is to make young people understand how many ideas and suggestions can be found in the passionate reading of a book. The goal is to create a dialogue between young readers and the literary world, providing them with a space to express themselves and discover new perspectives. Through literature, we wish to encourage a greater understanding of the issues that directly affect the lives of young people, from their dreams to their challenges, from their fears to their hopes for the future.”
