"We are honored to welcome an important national event like the Cromatica Festival to our city" said Ines Pierucci
Bari, the sixth edition of "Cromatica Festival" presented: the national festival of rainbow choirs is scheduled from 19 to 21 April.
It took place on Thursday morning, in the former Treasury room of Palazzo di Città, the press conference to present the sixth edition of "Cromatica Festival", the national festival of rainbow choirs scheduled from 19 to 21 April next: three days of events, music, shows and traveling flash mobs organized by Cromatica – National Association of Rainbow Choirs, in collaboration with Arcigay Bari – Varichina and MiXED LGBTQIA+.
The festival, which will see 13 rainbow choirs arrive in Bari from all over Italy, for a total of 430 choristers, it is an event that supports the claims and culture of the LGBTQIA+ community through choral singing, which has always been a means and symbol of liberation movements. Participating in the presentation were the councilor for Culture Ines Pierucci, the president of Arcigay Bari Francesco Fidati, the president of MiXED Elisa Schiavoni, the co-director of DoReMixed Patrizia Adamo and Rosa Panzini, of the RicchiToni choir board.
The festival is sponsored by Pugliapromozione and the Municipality of Bari, supported by the Waldensian 8×1000, by Bari Pride and by the LGBTQIA+ Technical Roundtable of the Municipality of Bari and supported by various sponsors. There are numerous associations present in the area involved in the festival: Zona Franka, Fridays for future, Origens, Cooperativa Arcoiris, cooperative Alice, Bread and Roses, Voga, Terre del mediterraneo, Casa delle Donne del Mediterraneo.
The Cromatica Festival gala evening at the Petruzzelli Theater, Saturday 20 April, will be hosted by Paolo Camilli – actor and comedian, also known for his participation in the jury of Drag Race Italia - and will host personalities such as: Francesca Cavallo, writer and activist committed to promoting gender equality and LGBTQIA+ rights, Eleonora Magnifico, trans singer-songwriter and activist for LGBTQIA+ rights, and Nikita Magno, Drag queen and LGBTQIA+ rights activist.
"We are honored to welcome an important national event such as the Cromatica Festival to our city, which for its sixth edition comes to Bari for the first time, with a very rich program of events, record numbers of participation and, above all, with a very strong message in support of the demands and culture of the LGBTQIA+ community – said Ines Pierucci -. At the center of the cultural policies of the city of Bari in support of civil rights is the idea that determinism, opposition, anatomy and the body no longer represent people's destiny. I therefore thank Arcigay and all the organizations that give life to the Cromatica festival, organizations alongside which we intend to continue to deconstruct stereotypes, toxic masculinity, combat gender violence and discrimination on sexual orientation. We are, in fact, very happy about the imminent discussion in the Regional Council, next April 23rd, of the bill for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and against discrimination, so that the awareness that around the body there is no process of nature but the outcome of a cultural process. Together with all the entities involved in these issues, we want to experiment with the space of possibility and necessity, a powerful paradigm that breaks down prejudices and encourages self-determination and the search for one's identity".
"The slogan we have chosen for this edition is “Loud & Proud”, – declared the vice-president of the Cromatica association Alessandra Ceccotti -. In this historical period in which the LGBTQIA+ community is invisible and the path to rights is often hindered, we want to claim loud and clear with our voices and our faces messages of freedom and self-determination, to strongly affirm the right to be oneself, without compromise and without fear. We involved Bari as the venue for the festival and the city responded in an extraordinary way with a full house at the Petruzzelli Theatre".
The visual choice of the festival has a queer rooster at the center, covered in feathers and sequins, a symbol of pride and freedom. “The rooster - underlined Francesco Fidati – is a football symbol rooted in the city of Bari, once associated with stereotypical and toxic masculinity. With our idea, it is reinvented and deconstructed, becoming an emblem of light, color and pride. Cromatica Festival therefore becomes the perfect opportunity to reappropriate and reinterpret an icon of the city of Bari which has always been a welcoming city, and we hope that events like this can make our territory increasingly inclusive towards all people."
"The choice to organize the Cromatica Festival in Bari – concluded Elisa Schiavoni - represents the support of the rainbow community from all over Italy for a norm of civility, the one that will finally be discussed in the Regional Council for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and against discrimination, which we want to see approved, because discrimination must not only be fought when it happens on time but they must be prevented with the culture of hospitality and plurality".
