Bari: on July 31st at the Teatro Piccinni the Guangdong Folk Music, Dance and Arts Gala.

As part of the path of enhancement and consolidation of twinning relations between the Puglia Region and the Guangdong Province and between the Municipality of Bari and the Municipality of Guangzhou (better known as Canton and the capital city of Guangdong, twinned with Bari since 1986), on Wednesday 31 July, at 20.30 pm the Niccolò Piccinni Municipal Theatre of Bari, in collaboration with the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, will host the Cultural Performance of Guangzhou Sister Cities Art Ensemble, Guangdong music, dance and folk arts gala.

The event, a free entry, will see sixteen artists on stage, six groups for an evening to discover the culture and folklore of southern China with Chinese lute (pipa), gaohu and flute musicians, dance performers, acrobatic, folk and traditional theatre, puppets, singers light music, opera and musicals.

For years, in fact, the Puglia Region and the municipal administration of Bari have been involved in a series of initiatives and actions involving various institutions in the area (including the Universities and the Academy of Fine Arts of Bari) designed to renew the friendship and collaboration between the two territories within a broader cooperation strategy between Puglia and the People's Republic of China.

Wednesday 31st will open with a visit to the city of Bari by a Chinese delegation led by the director of the Office of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism of the Municipality of Canton and a series of institutional meetings with the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Bari (the agenda will be announced in the coming days).

The show will take place at 20.30pm. They will perform on the Piccinni stage the six formations of music, folk, dance, opera, theatre, acrobatic arts and puppets: Guangdong Music & Folk Art Troup, Guangzhou Song and Dance Theatre, Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Theater, Guangzhou Acrobatic Arts Theatre, Guangdong Puppetry Arts Theatre, Southern Song and Dance Ensemble.

The event will be preceded by institutional greetings and the announcement of the winners (one Italian and one Chinese) of the first edition of the RestART project – Cityness, Ecologies, and Community – Bari Guangzhou Art Prize, an artistic award competition promoted by the Academy of Fine Arts of Bari and the Guangzhou Fine Arts Academy.
