Bari, great success for the IV edition of Lungomare di libri
For the fourth consecutive year Lungomare di libri, which took place from 5 to 7 July on the theme "The memory of the sea", Has transformed the Apulian capital into a large open-air bookshop and at a crossroads of meetings with authors, With the Wall animated by the 26 booksellers' houses of the Bari area.
Many guests took turns at the various events, which all achieved extraordinary audience participation and book sales, attracting not only Apulian readers, but also tourists, fascinated by the cultural ferment that also characterized this edition, further consolidating the collaboration between the Turin International Book Fair, the City of Bari, the Book Presidia, the Puglia Region, the booksellers of Bari and its province and the Apulian publishers.
For three days, from afternoon to late evening, master classes alternated, editorial presentations of novels and essays, readings, moments of in-depth analysis, activities for girls and boys and reading advice.
Among the guests of this edition we remember: Annalisa Camilli, Björn Larsson, Silvio Perrella, Emanuele Aldovrandi, Saba Anglana, Luca Bizzarri, Cristina Cassar Scalia, Filippo Ceccarelli, Francesco Carofiglio, Vittoria Facchini, Gabriella Genisi, Lorenza Gentile, Marcello Introna, Andrea Piva, Alessandro Vanoli, Antonella Viola.
The setting for the event is the exhibition of the illustrator Armin Greder with tables from the books Isola and Mediterraneo(published by Orecchio Acerbo), set up in the Civic Museum and open to visitors until 14 July, and the presentation of the permanent installation and the catalogue Agnese Purgatorio. Oases await us at the edge of the sea, in the Archaeological Museum of Santa Scolastica.
"Lungomare di libri in its fourth edition, this year with the theme of “Memory of the sea”, celebrated in Bari all its Adriatic happiness - commented the Councilor for Culture and Tourism Ines Pierucci -. In the alphabet of the seas of the world, the Mediterranean, whose world day is celebrated today, is the one closest to us here in the Adriatic part that gives a hand to the Tyrrhenian one. The grammar of the sea and the nautical glossary accompany our language every day when we face the tragic current events and the horrendous abysses, when we talk about travel, safe ports, landings and lifelines that in these days and in these years in Bari we have tried to question ourselves on how they could be anchors of wisdom, of changes, of agogic directions. We have sailed to the rhythm of culture, we have read books but not all those we would have liked to read. Paraphrasing Hikmet, as the most beautiful of seas is the one we have not sailed, the most beautiful of projects has not yet grown and the most beautiful that we would like to say we have not yet said. Each of us should have our own library of the sea, to which since yesterday have been added the books of this Lungomare, created thanks to the Salone del Libro, the Puglia Region and the Presidia del Libro which I thank and to whom I wish the best of horizons and seas whose migrations embrace the borders of the world and bless our souls”.
"It was a truly exciting edition, which demonstrated, if ever there was a need, the extraordinary potential of a one-of-a-kind event, which will only grow in the years to come - declared Marco Pautasso, general secretary of the Turin International Book Fair -. The virtuous coalition that unites the bookstores of Bari and the territory, the publishers of Puglia, the City of Bari, the International Book Fair of Turin, the Presìdi del libro and the Puglia Region has made possible an event to promote books and reading that has no equal and that draws its inspiration from our Turin experience of Portici di Carta. We have colored the sea with boys, girls and families, we have attended great lessons on the theme of the sea in literature and poetry, but also listened to the analyses of the great tragedies that continue to happen in the Mediterranean. We have been in the company of authors who with their themes have made us reflect on the present and on our memory, but also travel with the imagination and explore the delicate terrain of feelings and relationships. A great edition that has gathered readers and tourists around the book”.
“Like every year, at the end of the event, I stop by to say hello and ask my colleagues for comments - underlined Rocco Pinto, bookseller and coordinator of Lungomare di libri bookstores -. The responses were all positive and proactive. For three days we feel like protagonists, bringing books to the seaside and meeting not only the people of Bari but also those who come to visit the city, including many foreigners. “We move from one house to another and we get to know each other better” – is the comment of a colleague. The watchword is therefore “sharing”. A bookseller talking about assortment told me “we are the books we bring”. It is nice to dress the wall of books for three days and then parade showing our face. Many bookstores have animated with workshops, reading groups and games. In short, three days on the seaside, now we are waiting for you in our bookstores”.
Lungomare di libri is a project to promote books and reading, inspired by the successful formula of Portici di Carta in Turin, which passes through tourism promotion of the historic city centers and the involvement of the fertile territorial realities of the publishing chain, as independent bookstores, libraries and local publishers.
The fourth edition of Lungomare di libri is promoted by the Municipality of Bari -Department of Cultures and the Association I Presìdi del libro, with the support of the Puglia Region - Department of Tourism, Economy of Culture and Territorial Valorization, and is organized by the International Book Fair of Turin, together with the booksellers of Bari and the province, the publishing houses of Puglia with the organization of the APE-Associazione Pugliese Editori.
