Bari, Colibrì project: the “Catino” library was inaugurated on Friday 7 July, with technological equipment and an outdoor space for events.

It was inaugurated in the afternoon of Friday 7 July in Bari, in via dei Narcisi 9, in Municipality V, the “Catino” library, one of eleven of Colibrì project – Bari library network, financed by the regional notice Community library. The new library covers an area of 80 mXNUMX and is part of a building called "multipurpose”, home to associations such as the Circolo Arci – La stanza di Cesco, the ASD Giovanni Falcone and the Angel association. The structure, which can accommodate up to 20 users at the same time, is made up of one consultation room equipped with PC and technological equipment and can host laboratory activities and screenings. It also has one Outer space equipped with modular furnishings for holding outdoor events and performances, for small and large groups. The potential library stock of 5.000 volumes will have an orientation to reading from childhood to adulthood.

The ATS that will manage the structure, created as a result of the co-design process, is composed of Arci Cesco's room, Arci Bari-BAT, Parish of San Nicola and asd Giovanni Falcone. The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by mayor of Bari Antonio Decaro,Paola Romano, councilor for educational and youth policies, president of Municipality V Vincenzo Brandi, president of the Circolo Arci Cesco's room Daniela Martino, vice president of Arci Bari and BAT Marianna Giannuzzi, president of the Giovanni Falcone association Corrado Berardi and the parish priest Don Luciano Cassano.
“In recent years we have often repeated that the most important public work to be carried out is represented by the creation of a community – declared Antonio Decaro -. And that is what we are celebrating here today: a community that takes ownership of a space and is about to live in it. Libraries, like associations, parishes or schools, are small bricks of this work which is made up on the one hand of material investments, such as the new physical space that we are inaugurating today in Catino, and on the other of immaterial investments expressed by the energies and proposals that the local realities have shared to bring this new place to life. This combination inspired the Colibrì project which in recent years has allowed us to design and build 11 neighborhood libraries throughout the city, some of which have already been launched and active in the area. A network of cultural and socialization facilities designed primarily to learn to be together, get to know each other, exchange experiences and have access to an accessible and innovative book heritage".

“This one in Catino is the eighth of the 11 libraries in the Colibrì network, created in a neighborhood that until yesterday did not have any cultural space and which from today will be able to count on a redeveloped space, equipped with hundreds of volumes and lots of digital content available of small and large – continued Paola Romano -. Today we are handing over this place to the local associations who, for the next three years, will animate this cultural center with various activities to introduce people to reading. To create a real community among the managers of the city libraries, we have chosen the institute of co-planning, because we consider the managers the true strategic partners of this challenge: they will be the ones to bring these spaces to life, involving citizens and creating opportunities for socialization. I thank all the organizations who, by responding to this notice, have chosen to contribute to the growth of the city together with the administration. Finally, I thank the Puglia Region, which conceived and financed the Community library measure, the schools for co-designing this space with us and the 11 municipal divisions involved: this result is the result of intense administrative work".

“This structure in Catino, a neighborhood historically devoid of spaces dedicated to culture, represents a point of sharing in the name of exchange and personal and collective growth – underlined Vincenzo Brandi -. It will be the library of all citizens, in which it will be possible to participate in fruitful moments of aggregation. The Municipality will follow this exciting path step by step alongside the associations involved in the area". “In a city like Bari, characterized by a feeling of identity that is as deep-rooted as it is polycentric – commented Daniela Martino -, the implementation of a system of neighborhood libraries, intended not only as places of reading, but as real meeting places mutual and cultural promotion in close relationship with local associations and schools, represents an unmissable opportunity to affirm a new paradigm of active and aware citizenship: the purpose of a neighborhood library is to propose a different way of community building especially within those contexts where difficulties in terms of integration and marginality continue to persist. The identities and ambitions of individual places are reclaimed and valorised within this new space and become a spokesperson for change, social initiative, participation and growth of both the individual and the community".

Bari, progetto Colibrì: inaugurata venerdì 7 luglio la biblioteca “Catino”, con attrezzature tecnologiche e uno spazio esterno per gli eventi

“We imagined it, we dreamed it and here it is – highlighted Marianna Giannuzzi -. A neighborhood library, in a neighborhood that we love deeply and that we have seen change and grow with us over the years. The dedication and commitment of the club, of the volunteers of the Civil Service, of the people of the neighborhood have today led to the birth of a cultural center of which we are very proud". Bari is the only municipality in Puglia that in response to the regional Community library notice has decided to create a city network of 11 neighborhood libraries, in as many neighborhoods of the city, adopting a model of shared management and coherent from the point of view of standards of set-up, technological equipment and services. In addition to the library inaugurated today, the 10 other principals they are distributed as follows throughout the city: San Paolo (Lombardi school library), Libertà (Don Bosco neighborhood library), San Girolamo (Duse school library), San Cataldo (G. Marconi school library), San Nicola (Civic Museum library) , Murat (Mazzini school library), Carrassi (Cagnazzi neighborhood library), San Pasquale (Children's library), Carbonara (V.Maurogiovanni neighborhood library), Japigia (Iurlo neighborhood library).

The book system of Bari today is therefore conceived in concentric circles: in the first there are the 11 Colibrì libraries, in the second the approximately 58 school libraries (with which the municipal administration has signed a memorandum of understanding), in the third the spaces of reading of Bari Social Book, in the fourth circle, finally, the bookshops, which we will involve shortly and which we consider fundamental interlocutors. Colibrì aims to systematize this wealth, channeling all the city's energies onto a platform thanks to a single cataloging system, a web portal and a dedicated app that allows you to request inter-library loans and access more than 1 million contents digital and multimedia, including films, music, podcasts, e-books, language courses.
