Bari: the World Press Photo Exhibition returns to the Margherita theater for the tenth consecutive year.

World Press Photo Exhibition, the exhibition of photojournalism most prestigious in the world, returns to Bari for the tenth consecutive year starting from 13 October. It will once again be the Margherita theatre to host the international photographic exhibition, which this year comes to its own 66 edition and which, on the occasion of the important milestone of the tenth anniversary of Bari, will present itself to the city with an important novelty.

Born in Amsterdam in 1955, World Press Photo Foundation annually holds the prestigious competition photoreportage and, following the announcement of the global winners and of each category, organizes the traveling exhibition which is set up in over 120 cityin 50 Countries of the world. In Bari World Press Photo Exhibition is organized by CIME, one of the major European partners of the Amsterdam foundation, with the support of Puglia region and Municipality of Bari.

“We started the World Press Photo Bari adventure ten years ago now - Explains Vito Cramarossa, director of Cime – and today we feel particularly proud of this achievement. A tenth anniversary is certainly an important and significant stage and, for this reason, we want to celebrate it in the best way through some innovations and surprises that we will reserve for our city on the occasion of this 2023 edition".

"Ten years of World Press Photo Bari - he adds Ines Pierucci, Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Bari – they mark the path of the two administration mandates during which we tried to encourage the cultural growth of the city, also thanks to the largest and most prestigious photojournalism competition in the world. Hosting this new edition of the WPP will be the Margherita Theatre, pending the start of work on the second lot, whose construction site will still allow us to organize events. I thank Vito Cramarossa and CIME for having once again chosen the city of Bari as the location for an exhibition that tells the story of the world, around which burning current issues such as the conflicts that affect all of us and not just those who live in theaters of war will be explored in depth . The winning photo of the WPP 2023 expresses the power of images through the suffering captured in the moment before death, which is even more heartbreaking than death itself and which refers to Piero della Francesca's Madonna del Parto, which became a cinematic subject thanks to Tarkovsky, the whose photographic interpretation contributes to restoring the futility and dramatic reality of war, enriching the cultural responsibility of artists and photographers with meaning".

“Arrived in Puglia ten years ago as an exceptional novelty, the international photojournalism exhibition World Press Photo has over the years become a consolidated reality and a highly anticipated event on the Apulian cultural agenda - declares Grace DiBari, Councilor with responsibility for Culture of the Puglia Region -. A great event that contributes to giving the city of Bari and the entire Puglia region an important place in the international cultural scene. An important result, which we celebrate on the occasion of this tenth anniversary, which contributes to making the Puglia region the ideal context for welcoming large national and international tourist flows, which every year reward our cultural offer and services intended for travellers. It will once again be a pride to be able to see the people of Bari and the many tourists who come to Puglia, queuing together, to visit the exhibition inside the Margherita Theatre, set up for the occasion, with the contribution of the Puglia Region through the Pugliese Public Theatre”.
