Bach Festival in the Basilica: concerts in San Simpliciano on 11, 18 and 25 October

Milano. In the evenings of11, 18 and 25 October, for the festival”Bach in the Basilica”, the doors of the ancient and evocative church will open and the music of the great German master will resonate among the large vaults. TO Sandro Boccardi, who recently passed away, the first of the three concerts of the festival will be dedicated to him.
In the early evening, Wednesday 11 October at 21 pm, the interpreter will be Lorenzo Ghielmi: titular organist of the Basilica of San Simpliciano, teacher at the Civic School of Music «Claudio Abbado" from Milano, Ghielmi is one of the best-known European organists. Some of the most important choirs of Johann Sebastian Bach they will be accompanied by three great compositions by Nicolaus Bruhns, a brilliant composer of the late seventeenth century who he died at just 32 years old. Few works of his remain, masterpieces that can easily be compared with the pages of Bach.
Next week, Wednesday 18 October always at 21pm, the Spanish organist Juan Maria Pedrero will be accompanied by famous pieces by Bach, including the famous one Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C major, some works by Francisco Correa de Arauxo, great composer of the seventeenth century Spanish. Maestro Pedrero is an organ teacher at the Granada Conservatory and a member of the city's Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
The cycle will end, Wednesday 25 October at 21pm, the Dutch organist Leon Berben, one of the emerging figures in the world of early music. Student of Gustav Leonhardt – of which he was the last student –, and of Ton Koopman, since 2000 he has been a harpsichordist of Musica Antiqua Köln, an ensemble with which he has played all over the world and with which he has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon/Archiv Produktion. His program will see the comparison between the music of Bach and that of Dieterich Buxtehude. The concert concludes with the famous one passacaglia by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The organ of the Basilica of San Simpliciano it is a particularly precious musical instrument. Built in 1991 by the German organ builder Jürgen Ahrend, is the result of a project born in 1985, the European Year of Music. The true soul of the promoting committee was Sandro Boccardi, responsible for the event "Music and Poetry in San Maurizio”, for the Culture Department of the Municipality of Milano.
The festival “Bach in the Basilica” is organized by the association il Song of Orpheus, with the collaboration of Fondazione Crocevia and the patronage of the Ministry of Culture.
