The 5th edition of the Aiap Women in Design Award will be held at the Triennale: the awards ceremony on Friday 10 November.

Milano: Friday 10 November at 18.00 pm, at the Triennale Milano, the awards ceremony will be held 5th edition of AWDA, Aiap Women in Design Award the international biennial award aimed at visual communication designers which was created with the aim of search for different languages, poetics and approaches to graphic design but also to map the working conditions of designers.

In addition to discovering the sixty selected projects, we will listen to the voices of personalities and representatives of design associations from all over the world, who took part in the international and research jury.

An emblematic question will be the thin thread during the evening: “How many women are in the room?”, an invitation to never let your guard down on the theme of female presence and representation, in design as in all disciplinary fields. For the first time a special prize, AWDA for Rights!, will be awarded to the project that best addresses the social issues of women's rights and work, and more generally of gender disparities and in every area.

Honorable mentions will be awarded, one for each award category (students, researchers, professionals), and the main recognition Aiap Women in Design Award. Finally it will be recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award and a Memory Award the merit of two designers who in the past decades have followed an innovative professional path contributing in an authoritative manner to project culture in the field of visual communication design.

During the ceremony, entirely dedicated to designers and design, there will be two special moments: one of testimony aimed at Iranian women on whom we want to remain high attention and one of reflection reserved for John Walters, historical director of the magazine Eye magazine.

The event is free to enter upon registration on triennale.org

THE PRIZE
AWDA is an award founded in 2012 by Cinzia Ferrara, Laura Moretti and Daniela Piscitelli. From 2021 the curators are Cinzia Ferrara, Laura Moretti and Carla Palladino, supported by a small team of young designers: Alice Bianco, Costanza De Luca, Benedetta De Rossi, Elia Maniscalco, Bianca Sangalli Moretti, Lucia Tonelli. AIAP, Italian Association of Visual Communication Design, is one of them Project Leader since the first edition. ICoD, International Council of Design, has the role of Institutional Partner since 2019, and disseminates AWDA, as one of its core activities, through design associations around the world. AWDA is an international award, which aims to bring out, in aoptics of valorization and gender equality, those female figures of visual communication design, of the past, of the present, of the future, which even recent history does not always report. AWDA is also a platform for discussion and dialogue, necessary in a historical moment in which women, in many countries of the world, are denied the main human rights and not only those linked to possibility to study, work, carry out projects.
