Ancona: New Anti-Violence Infopoint in Piazza Roma
As part of the initiatives promoted by the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Ancona to demonstrate the attention and sensitivity of the Force on the issue of gender violence, at the conference room of the Bank of Italy in Ancona, a seminar entitled “To protect women. Prevent, inform, prosecute, protect” was held. Over 50 Carabinieri, commanders of Companies, Operational Units, Stations and Tenancies from across the province, converged on the prestigious location in Piazza JF Kennedy to participate in the meeting and listen to the speeches of important representatives of the Institutions and Associations that constitute and animate the network for combating violence in the area.
The Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri, Col. Roberto di Costanzo, introduced the proceedings, highlighting how the in order to definitively stem any aggressive and bullying attitude towards women constitutes an absolute priority for the Carabinieri, to be achieved not only through repressive actions but also through multidisciplinary training of personnel on issues so complex and current that they require skills and sensitivity that go far beyond the ordinary.
After greetings from the Director of the Banca d'Italia branch in Ancona, Dr. Maurizio Cannistraro, the speeches followed, moderated by the Commander of the Operations Department, Lt. Col. Carmine Elefante, by Dr. Cinzia Nicolini, President of the Soroptimist Club Ancona, by Lawyer Roberta Montenovo, President of the Association "Donne e Giustizia" - Anti-violence Center of the province of Ancona, by Dr. Valentina D'Agostino, Deputy Prosecutor of the Republic of Ancona and coordinator of the group of magistrates who deal with particularly vulnerable groups, and finally by Dr. Simona Calcagnini, Chief of Staff of the Prefecture of Ancona.
Each speaker brought to the audience the experience gained in their own field, transmitting very useful food for thought. both in operational terms and in terms of developing a correct approach and adequate sensitivity in providing support to women in difficulty from the very first approach, also to avoid secondary victimization processes.
Once the speeches were over, a debate followed with the department commanders present in the audience, from which the importance of a synergic action between the various protagonists emerged unequivocally, in various capacities, of the fight against gender violence so that the victims, in addition to being protected and safeguarded, are accompanied by the hand in the difficult path necessary both to identify their own condition of submission and to definitively free themselves from the chains of abuse and subjection.
In ideal continuity with the themes covered during the seminar, Sunday 24 November, starting at 10:00, in the central Piazza Roma the Carabinieri will set up an anti-violence info-point with the participation, alongside the women of the Arma, of the volunteers of Donne e Giustizia and the Soroptimist Club Ancona. A Carabinieri Mobile Station will be positioned in the square, a private and safe place where you can also confide and discuss your situations of discomfort or abuse with expert, prepared and sensitive people.
