Ancona: Cinematica Festival 2024, XNUMXth edition “Dying from laughter”

Internationally renowned artists, digital art excellences, dance, shows, workshops, installations, concerts, cinema, creativity and new technologies, new exhibitions. Come back to amaze KINEMATICS, the innovative festival dedicated to the moving image, which has its unmistakable trademark in the multidisciplinarity and transversality of languages.

With a PREVIEW on October 26th and 27th between Ancona and Jesi, in the Marche, and the FESTIVAL from October 31st to November 3rd in Ancona, Cinematica declines its eleventh edition around the theme “Dying from laughter”, a claim that comes after a trilogy (Touch ME, Natura Naturans, De Anima) dedicated to accompanying the public to emerge from the pandemic event.

The event was presented at the headquarters of the Marche Region, in the presence of the regional councilor for Culture, Chiara Biondi, the councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Ancona, Anna Maria Bertini, Alessandro Tesei, councilor for Tourism of the Municipality of Jesi, Simona Lisi, creator and artistic director of the festival, and Aldo Grassini, president of the Omero Museum of Ancona.

«Cinematica Festival is certainly an innovative event in the regional and national cultural panorama – declared the councilor Chiara Biondi – It reaches its 11th edition, confirming all the interest it arouses for its artistic contribution and for its ability to present its original formula through many performing arts. Moving from dance to theater, to cinema, Cinematica shows how art in its movement can represent a new way to promote culture. Furthermore, there will be a further opportunity: the two cities that will host the festival, Ancona and Jesi, will have the opportunity to showcase their most beautiful and iconic places. The Mole Vanvitelliana and the Archaeological Museum of the Marche for the first, Palazzo Pianetti for the second. The in-depth analysis of social issues will also be admirable and innovative. I think that these peculiarities together represent an added value and that they will contribute to offering even more, from a cultural point of view, elements of novelty for our region».

"It seems to us that the time has come to face the funniest yet not superficial side of existence, that explosion of energy that leads to laughter is also a powerful activator of new resources, of unexpected solutions that give new opportunities for vision", explains the artistic director, Simona Lisi. «Cinematica will therefore explore the creativity between image and movement more closely linked to the ironic, funny, but also grotesque quality of human behavior and beings. Central to the inspiration is slapstick, silent films, but also comedy duos, clowns, memes, games and video games.».

On the programme, a kaleidoscopic proposal of visual, filmic and performing arts dedicated to the exploration of tragicomic themeThe inspiring muse of Cinematica 2024 is Valeska Gert, an artist who with her rough and courageous dance-theatre in 20s and 30s Germany was a pioneer of performance art and German punk, and to whom the Festival dedicates a focus and the image of the 2024 edition.

Between appointments, shows and workshops with choreographers and dancers such as Giorgio Rossi and Compagnia Tardito/Rendina, the young and acclaimed company Panzetti/Ticconi, a tribute to Ugo Tognazzi with a special guest such as the director Ricky Tognazzi, and a scathing and satirical author such as Arianna Porcelli Safonov. Furthermore, music that relates to cinema with the Têtes de Bois and Agostino Ferrente, a focus on actor's theatre with extraordinary artists such as the young Caroline Baglioni, theatre that confronts the digital dimension such as Giacomo Liliù's Teatropostaggio.

In Jesi the first solo exhibition dedicated to the visual artist Donato Sansone, acclaimed author of many video clip and animated film projects with an ironic and biting style, in Ancona an exhibition on Pulcinella with a tribute to the illustrator Mauro Evangelista.

There will also be space for workshops for children and families, for krump dancing, for a focus on video games and for the usual international Videodance competition with the best proposals from all over the world.

The performance – an unlikely digital rewriting of Goldoni – takes place on two levels, that of reality and the virtual one on Telegram, to translate shitposting into dramaturgy, that is, the derailment of a virtual discussion with inappropriate content.

At 21,30pm in the Auditorium the appointment is with “The cine-concert of happiness”, screenings, music and conversations curated by Andrea Satta (Têtes de Bois) and Agostino Ferrente (director of “L'Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio” and “Le cose belle”), with the shorts “Alfonsina e la bici” (Ita 2010) and “Coupon – The Film of Happiness” (Ita 2023).

The public is called to vote for their favorite video, hosted in a semi-serious way by NIBA and Andrea Bartola.

The Festival closes with two shows in collaboration with Amat. At Boxing Hall, 19pm, there is “Gianni”, inspired by the voice of Gianni Pampanini, by and with Caroline Baglioni and directed by Michelangelo Bellani. The award-winning play (Scenario prize for Ustica 2015, In-Box Blu 2016, Museo Cervi-Teatro per la Memoria prize 2017) takes inspiration from the discovery of an original audio track, testimony of a broken existence, and becomes a work on individual memory capable of creating a space of understanding and empathy that shakes the spectator.

Arianna Porcelli Safonov will close Cinematica 2024 (21,30pm, Auditorium), storyteller and author of satirical texts that have sold out stages all over Italy: “Gli sforza inutile con cui la vita imita l'arte” is a monologue on the world of contemporary art that brings to the table the experiment of marginalization of the end user who is considered too normal for the understanding of artistic expression and its distribution, as if normality were an illness.
