Veronetta (Verona), “Tracce di Quartiere” arrives: an interactive experience to travel through memories and sounds of the neighborhood
Since 2023 the Polimorphica APS cultural association animates the activities of the Social Newsstand in Piazza Santa Toscana, meeting the inhabitants of Veronetta and gathering their desire to tell their stories.
From this necessity is the idea of proposing moments of listening and collecting stories from the Veronetta neighborhood was born, first in written form and subsequently through the direct recording of people's voices.
This project gave birth to “Traces of the Neighborhood – Veronetta”, an initiative sponsored by the 1st District of the Municipality of Verona which places the inhabitants and their stories and memories at the center of the narrative of the past and the stories of the present, describing the social changes of which the neighborhood is the protagonist.
Starting from June 4, it will be possible to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the neighborhood thanks to the podcast “Tracce di Quartiere – Veronetta,” available on all digital platforms.
The exhibition will be held at the same time “Traces of the Neighborhood – Veronetta, Listening Exhibition" at garden in front of the Santa Marta University Centre, an integral part of the Veronetta Contemporanea Festival.
The exhibition, created in collaboration with the University of Verona, it will be inaugurated on Tuesday 4 June at 17.30 pm and will offer portraits of the podcast participants, accompanied by their voices which can be heard by scanning the QR Codes placed under the portraits.
But that's not all: Polymorphic he also captured the sounds of Veronetta, creating the installation “Traces of the Neighborhood – Veronetta, Soundscapes,” active Friday 14 June from 18pm e Saturday 15 June from 9am in the West Court of Santa Marta within the Veronetta Contemporanea Festival.
This immersive experience will allow visitors to explore the sounds of the neighborhood via a digital device which, through an interactive map, will guide the listener through the characteristic sounds of Veronetta and the urban narratives that accompany them.
A special focus will be dedicated to the Veronetta Contemporanea Festival, with a sound track of the highlights of the various evenings, making the festival itself a place alive with sounds and words of the neighborhood.
The exhibition and the installation are both free to enter., offering an unmissable opportunity to experience Veronetta through the stories of its protagonists.
«Tracce di Quartiere is first and foremost a relational project, based on listening and understanding, two fundamental components of the meeting - explains Giovanni Corsini, President of Polimorphica. - The project was born from a need encountered during the protests at the Edicola Sociale, that is, the need to meet and tell each other about finding that dimension of neighborhood that has always been a good social habit with a strong positive impact, and that we have inherited. From this, different possible ways of valorization take shape: the written form, the oral form but also the artistic one. However, all united by a narrative realism in which the protagonist always remains the person who lives in a place. We chose the podcast as a contemporary and truthful means of communication, precisely because it brings the voice itself into play. As in front of a coffee, sitting at a table we let the microphone record for us the said but also the unsaid of a dialogue, simply guiding the interlocutor in the story of his experiences.
«We are happy to promote - declares the councilor and President of Commission V Social, Health, Third Sector, Family and Leisure of the 1st Historic Center District - This initiative aims to share personal and personal experiences of the Veronetta neighborhood, ideally forming a social heritage of memories, stories and tales. I therefore thank the association for this beautiful project and invite people to participate and listen to what the neighborhood has to offer."
