Trento, L'Aquila Basket delivered the proceeds of the "We volunteer game" match to the mayor of Lviv

When sport and volunteering come together the results are always positive. Prologue to the inauguration of Trento European Capital of Volunteering 2024, the “We volunteer game”, last Wednesday's EuroCup basketball match between Dolomiti Energia Trentino and Buducnost Podgorica was one of the first events of this year dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of the volunteers' activity. Entrance to the "Il T daily Arena" was free of charge and the proceeds of the donations - 16.340 euros - were delivered on Saturday afternoon to Palazzo Geremia by a delegation from Aquila Basket, made up of the president Luigi Longhi, the vice-president Bruno Giampieretti and the director of the Aquila Foundation Massimo Komatz, to Andrij Sadovyj, mayor of Lviv, the city on the front line in welcoming refugees from the Ukrainian war, itself hit in recent months by Russian missiles and drones. Lviv was a candidate for European Capital of Volunteering for 2024 together with Trento. Since then, relations between the two municipalities have never been interrupted.

The “We volunteer game” was promoted by Aquila Basket and the Municipality of Trento, in collaboration with the Autonomous Province and the organizational support of the Volunteer Service Centre.

At the opening of the post-council press conference, the mayor Franco Ianeselli recalled the extraordinary inaugural day of Trento, the European and Italian capital of volunteering, with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. The mayor declared: «Today we are still full of the enthusiasm of Saturday, which will remain with the city throughout the year. 2024 will not only be about celebration and celebration, but about commitment to growing volunteerism in the city. We also bring with us the definition of "power of solidarity" that the President of Repubblica coined for Trento: we will try to live up to it. This is also an opportunity to thank all the people who worked on the inauguration of Trento Capitale of Volunteering inside and outside the municipal administration: if everything went well it is thanks to everyone's work."
