Benevento, the exhibition “Memories of Men. The Great War in over 150 period images”.
The mayor Clemente Mastella and the councilor for culture, Antonella Tartaglia Polcini, announce that from 7 to 10 March, in the Graffiti Room of Palazzo Paolo V, an exhibition entitled “Memoirs of Men. The Great War in over 150 period images”.
“The aim of the exhibition – explain the mayor Mastella and the councilor Tartaglia Polcini – is to tell what the First World War represented for our country and above all to pass on a historical memory of that event. This is in order to raise awareness among young generations, also through interventions by local personalities and the participation of associations and small delegations from local schools. The exhibition, traveling and sponsored by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, by Assoarma and, through the Military Historical Center, by the Ministry of Defense and the Italian Government, is divided into sections capable of offering a vast panorama of those years and documented by 150 photographs which therefore allow us to grasp even lesser-known aspects of the Great War".
Among the regions most affected by the tragic war event was Friuli Venezia Giulia which, historically and institutionally, feels the moral duty to 'not forget' what happened one hundred years ago on its territory and offers various opportunities for reflection. One of these is precisely the photographic exhibition “Memories of men. The Great War in over 150 period images”.
The territory of Benevento and Sannio, deeply affected by the devastation of that war, has dedicated particular attention, through institutional and associative initiatives, to the recovery and transmission to new generations of the memory of the impact of the Great War on local reality.
The program includes the inauguration on Monday 7 March at 16pm, in the presence of the civil, military and religious authorities, the main institutions and associations active on the topic, the promoters and, among others, General Rossi, former undersecretary of Defense as well as signatory of the exhibition presentation.
The participation of international relations historian Silvio Berardi is also expected, who will give a short presentation on the theme and context of those events, with also references to the current affairs of the current scenarios.
On March 9th at 10am, in the presence of the prefect of Benevento Carlo Torlontano, the Friulian delegation will lay a wreath in memory of the fallen to whom the plaques located in the courtyard of Palazzo Paolo V are dedicated.
The delegation of the promoters and organizers of the exhibition will arrive in Benevento on the 7th and will leave on the 11th will be involved in tourist visits to the main historical and cultural sites of the city in order to also enhance the culture of interchange between the historical, archaeological, artistic and landscape testimonies of the territories.
