On stage at the Chiabrera theater on three evenings, 16, 17 and 18 January at 21.00 pm, "Mercy" directed by Emma Dante, the contemporary fairy tale that tells of the fragility of women, their desperate and boundless loneliness.
“For the first time, one of the most appreciated Italian directors abroad is coming to the Chiabrera Theatre, Emma Dante with the beautiful and touching Misericordia,” declares the Director of the Chiabrera Theater, Rajeev Badhan-.
The director writes: “Three whores and a crippled boy live in a filthy and miserable one-room apartment. During the day the women knit and make shawls, at sunset, on the doorstep of their homes, they offer their sagging bodies to passers-by. Arturo never sits still, he is a hyperkinetic little boy. Every evening, at the same time, he goes to the window to watch the band pass by and dreams of playing the bass drum. Arturo's mother was called Lucia, she was as dry as an anchovy and she always had a radio on. The house was bent to music and Lucia was dancing to the men! Especially for a carpenter who showed up at home every Thursday. The man owned a sawmill where fruit crates were made, he earned good money but he went around with a wool cap and gloves with holes in them. They called him “Geppetto”. He raised his hands. Arturo is born from her father's beatings and Lucia dies two hours after giving birth to him. Despite the hell of terrible degradation, Anna, Nuzza and Bettina raise him as if he were their child. Arturo, the piece of wood, cared for by three mothers, becomes a child. “
