Sassari, two new steps forward towards the intermodal centre: a new car park and the restoration of the former power plant.

The long and complex process that will lead to the birth of the new intermodal center continues, as designed by the Campus Administration. The Council approved the two technical-economic feasibility projects for the construction of the car park in via XXV Aprile and for the restoration and functional conversion of the "former power plant" building. This is a fundamental step: it is the first level of planning for public works, a moment which also marks compliance with the timetable envisaged by the Administration and which foresees the opening of the construction site in 2024. «With the approval today in the Council of two projects we are entering the operational phase of these works which represent two pillars of what I have defined as the Marshall plan for the relaunch of the historic center, together with the Pinqua project – explained the mayor Nanni Campus -. The latter, I remind you, involves the recovery of the former Turritania hotel, where, in addition to social housing apartments, public spaces for sharing and socialization will also be created, and 8 buildings in a state of decay, in addition to the redevelopment of Piazza Sant 'Antonio and the open space overlooked by the school of San Donato and the building in via Fontana 14. Added to this is the construction already underway of a new civic market and the interventions financed and planned for via Torre Tonda and for the neighborhood of San Donato".

As regards the area of via XXV Aprile, the works will consist of the construction of a large car park with access from via XXV Aprile and an equipped square above in continuity with Corso Vico, all for an amount of 6.700.000 euros. Thanks to the transition that took place today in the Council, we will now proceed with the assignment of the task to the same group for the completion of the definitive and executive planning. Meanwhile, environmental monitoring operations in the area continue, as requested by Arpas. Therefore, following the conclusion of the project activities, with the indications deriving from the environmental monitoring, the works will be tendered.

The second, for 4.800.000 euros, involves the recovery and renovation of the former power plant building which will become a service center and an area equipped to host social and cultural activities. Since this is a renovation and restoration project, as soon as the authorizations are obtained from the relevant bodies, the work will be immediately contracted out.

To speed up the bureaucratic process as much as possible, in March 2021 the Administration had divided the complex project of the intermodal center into four different interventions, as proposed by a study presented by the engineer in charge Paolo Ticca. In addition to the two for which the technical-economic feasibility projects have been approved, the construction of the bus station is planned for 7.900.000 euros, which will be built in the area purchased by the State Railways on Viale San Paolo which will be connected both inside the train station and with the station square; Furthermore, the construction of five new roundabouts is planned: between Corso Margherita di Savoia, Via delle Conce and Corso Vico, between Via Pdre Zirano, Piazza Santa Maria and Via XXV April, between Via Predda NIedda and Via San Paolo, between Via San Paolo and via Madonna della Mercede and between Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Piazza Sant'Antonio, in addition to the redevelopment of Via XXV Aprile, Piazza Sant'Antonio and the Porta Utzeri area, for 7.800.000 euros. The other two interventions are in the technical-economic feasibility project approval phase.
