Rome: a stone's throw from the Appia Antica, the bee-friendly solidarity vegetable orchard takes root.

Care for the environment and people: these are the principles on which it has its roots the Orchard solid planted today in Rome on one of the lands managed by Capodarco Agricultural Social Cooperative. The project was made thanks to support di Cooperative Credit Bank of Rome with the technical support of Zero CO2.

The intervention it concerned a Plot Near of the Appia Antica available to the Cooperative and in which they were planted 120 plants belonging to melliferous and bushy species including apricots, ancient fruit-bearing varieties from Lazio, olive trees, lavender, rosemary and sage. It's about plant select by attract and protect different species of pollinating insects such as bees, butterflies and bumblebees whose precious pollination work depends on the conservation of the biodiversity heritage and whose survival is however threatened by pollution, pesticides, habitat loss, parasites, diseases and climate change.

Roma: a due passi dall'Appia Antica mette radici l'ortofrutteto solidale amico delle api.

Protagonists of this day dedicated to environmental sustainability are some of the boys and girls between 18 and 29 years that are part of Community Guardians Project and who took care of planting the plants. It's about young people in economic or social hardship (disabled young people, NEETs and SEN) who first faced a training course focused on agriculture and later began work placements.

Un appointment who also saw the participation of Maurizio Longhi, President of the Cooperative Credit Bank of Rome, Salvatore Stingo, President of the Capodarco Agricultural Social Cooperative e Annalisa Corrado, Head of innovative projects at AzzeroCO2.

“The initiative of the Capodarco Cooperative and AzzeroCO2 – said Maurizio Longhi – is of great significance and could not fail to find our convinced support. Attention to the environment, mutualism and social inclusion have always been essential guidelines for the BCC of Rome, which often, moreover, favors unconventional forms of financing such as microcredit which also guarantee subjects with little or no guarantees to have access to financing . I add - ha Longhi concluded - that our new Sustainability Plan, based on the 17 objectives (ESG) of the United Nations, confirms a commitment that is certainly not impromptu, but long-lasting".

The choice of honey species it was not accidental and actually has a high symbolic as well as naturalistic value. The intervention carried out will in fact allow the creation of a natural refuge for endangered species, in a place where hospitality and protection of fragile subjects is already at home. In fact, it is no coincidence that land managed by Agricoltura Capodarco, a social cooperative that uses agricultural practices in order to generate well-being for the local community and carry out socially relevant interventions aimed at people in disadvantaged conditions, was chosen to graft the fruit orchard. .

“The planting of the plants was carried out in approximately 20 hectares of land on the Appia Antica managed by Agricoltura Capodarco, cultivated with arable land (wheat) and vineyards – said Salvatore Stingo, President of the Capodarco Agricultural Social Cooperative – Today's speech aims to demonstrate with a concrete example the enormous potential expressed by Social Agriculture, which holds within itself the ability to combine the themes of welcoming and work placement of the most vulnerable people with respect for the environment and good practices of organic agriculture”.

“Thanks to the partnership with Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Roma we continue on our path which aims to combine environmental protection with support for the most vulnerable people – said Annalisa Corrado Head of innovative projects at AzzeroCO2 – With the OrtoFrutteto created in the Capodarco Social Agriculture Cooperative we want to promote a civil, sustainable and inclusive economy capable of bringing benefits to the entire community and the territory and which invests in people who would otherwise have greater difficulty integrating into the world of work. Environmental protection, solidarity, social redemption are the cornerstones on which to build a greener and fairer future for all."
