Pesaro 2024 pays homage to maestro Pavarotti with a bronze sculpture dedicated to the tenor

It is a heartfelt and proud tribute that the Italian Capital of Culture is preparing to reveal Saturday 27 April, at 19pm, in Piazzale Lazzarini, a few steps from the Rossini Theatre. This is the place chosen for the placement of life-size bronze sculpture that the Capital will dedicate to "its" Luciano Pavarotti, “in the extraordinary year of Pesaro 2024”.

“It is a gift to the city but above all a tribute to Luciano Pavarotti – explain Matteo Ricci, mayor of Pesaro Daniele Vimini, deputy mayor councilor for Beauty – an extraordinary artist never forgotten, honorary citizen of Pesaro – who we have decided to honor with a life-size, high-value bronze structure. It will be located in Piazzale Lazzarini, at the intersection with Via Curiel, in a position in perspective of the fountain so that it can greet and welcome with its presence the people of Pesaro and visitors who enter the square coming from Via Branca, almost as if to invite them to the theatre".

The city had already anticipated its intention to pay tribute “to an extraordinary artist never forgotten and much loved by the people of Pesaro, proud to be able to show to those who reach the city, walking on the sand of the Pavarotti lido, the villa that the tenor chose as a retreat kept between the green cliffs of the San Bartolo Park overlooking the Adriatic". He had announced it before in August 2022, at the end of the ceremony of affixing Luciano Pavarotti's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in which a delegation from Pesaro participated; then in October 2023, on the tenor's 88th birthday.

"Big Luciano” he will therefore return to the places of the city, in concert clothes, he will ideally embrace and greet citizens and visitors during the special year of Pesaro 2024. The bronze statue, adds Vimini: “It will be positioned in such a way as to allow everyone to photograph themselves near the Maestro, with the splendid view of the Rossini Theater behind them”. It will allow, in the special year of Pesaro 2024, "to make a redeveloped space even more beautiful also by the desire to network the activities of the square which in recent months have been organized to create moments of welcome".

Vimini concludes with a “Thank you very much to the family – who we are waiting for at Saturday's appointment – ​​for the generosity with which they embraced the project. Thanks to the councilor for Fare Riccardo Pozzi for the coordination of the intervention which we are certain will pay homage to the Maestro and will become a meeting point, a point of reference for the city, proud to be able to include, in its history, the presence of Pavarotti as happened for the opening of the BPA Palas, now Vitrifrigo Arena in 1980 and as during the performance he gave during the Rossini Opera Festiva in Piazza del Popolo".
