Monza, the Park becomes a gym

Monza, 08 June 2020. Yoga, but also pilates, free body or weights with the guidance of instructors, personal trainers and coaches. The important thing is to sweat and train in the open air.

The idea of the Municipal Administration and the "Consortium Villa Reale and Monza Park" is to transform the Park into an open-air gym: an outlet for citizens after months of quarantine and a breath of fresh air for the fitness centers closed during the lockdown.
Monza, the central park in Phase 2. «Our green lung is central in Phase 2», declares the President of the Consortium Dario Allevi. Last May 18th the Park was reopened to citizens for walking, running or cycling, today there is a dedicated area within it for all those sporting activities which, with the Covid containment guidelines still in force , would be very difficult to be carried out indoors. All of this, obviously, while maintaining social distancing and safety measures.

An opportunity for gyms and athletes. «The idea is to give gyms and sports associations the possibility of holding courses in the open air, thus overcoming the concern of their members about carrying out physical activity in closed places, explains Dario Allevi. The rules established to stem Coronavirus infections are causing serious repercussions on the economy, but have also had an impact on people on a psychophysical level. The Park is the ideal place to train to stay fit and release tension and anxiety at a time that is still very difficult." There are around 130 sports associations in Monza and around forty private fitness centres.

The area. The idea is simple: to make a large green open space available to citizens until October 31st where they can do physical activity. The area identified is a portion of the one in front of Villa Mirabello, where Pope Francis celebrated Mass in 2017: a space of 20 thousand square meters (2 hectares) where every gym or sports association will be able to organize their own training or activity sport, maintaining social distancing. The activity can be carried out from 7am to 20pm.

Outdoor sports safely. As regards safety, there are "guidelines" with clear rules and the obligation for organizers and promoters to enforce them. Each group cannot consist of more than 12 people, divided into subgroups of 4. Participants must be equipped with hand sanitizing products, must maintain a distance of 2 meters between each other during training and any equipment (mats, weights, water bottles, bottles, etc.) must be personal. The mask is mandatory before and after sporting activity.

The Consortium's authorization. Gyms and sports clubs will have to book their space by filling out the form downloadable from the site www.reggiadimonza.it and sending it via email to the address comunication@reggiadimonza.it, by Friday at 12pm for the weekend and within the previous 24 hours for weekdays. The booking will be confirmed by the Consortium via a specific email. The organizers must keep the Consortium's authorization to show it to any control requests from the Authorities.
