Modena, the “Fair as big as the center” fair returns to Sant'Antonio
“A fair as big as the center!” is the slogan that also accompanies this year the events planned in Modena for Sant'Antonio, Wednesday 17 January, and then for the patron saint San Geminiano, Wednesday 31 January, again from 8am to 20pm. In fact, the new layout of the two traditional fairs, with a plan that includes up to 505 exhibitors, integrating Via Farini and Piazza Roma into the historical route, which has its heart in Piazza Grande and Via Emilia, while special initiatives are planned in Piazza XX Settembre with a Modena Calcio stand, street artists and tastings of borlenghi, wines and cured meats, as well as the opening of the Albinelli Market.
With the tenders that took place during 2023, 469 parking spaces were assigned, while another 182 street vendors were included in the ranking of the so-called “check”, the procedure that allows, on the day of the fair, early in the morning, to occupy one of the free spaces or those left free by the stand holders.
Furthermore, on the occasion of Sant'Antonio, as will also happen for San Geminiano, the extraordinary opening of Palazzo Ducale and the municipal vinegar factory is planned, with paid visits that can be booked on the portal online where you can also consult other tourist opportunities: from the Ghirlandina to the Duomo, up to the museums and exhibitions.
The development of fairs over a larger area allows, as explained by the councilor for economic policies and tourism and promotion of the city Ludovica Carla Ferrari, to improve the functionality and safety of the events, also increasing their attractiveness and enhancing the beauty of the historic centre, being able to count on a less dense commercial offer, on larger spaces for walking and on a more effective display of the goods, avoiding double fronts and displays adjacent to each other. In this way, it also promotes co-presence of the public of fairs with that directed to shops and commercial activities, as well as to residents and workers of the historic center. And the control activity guaranteed by the local police for the safety of the demonstrations is also more effective. Prevention of the risk of theft by pickpockets is foreseen and checks are planned on illegal sellers, on compliance with anti-counterfeiting legislation, on the safety of products on sale, and on the correct application of the rules.
The garrison will also be active “Social and safe city” in Piazza Matteotti with the presence of local police operators and volunteers from the associations Narxis, Fare Ambiente, Gel, Gev, Aeop, Ana and the National Carabinieri Association.
