“Modena Viaemili@contest” is back: the online contest dedicated to film schools.
Modena. Screening of documentaries but also space for proposals from young international directors and authors: at Modena Viaemili@docfest they return on online contest dedicated to film schools national and international and the competition "Better Crazy than Short" which talks about mental health with seven short films, one Italian and six from European productions, including the winner of the Oscar Prize to the best short film 2023 "An Irish Goodbye" di Tom Berkeley and Ross White.
Arrived at ninth edition, competition "Better Crazy than Short” confirms itself as one of Màt's most anticipated events, Mental Health Weekand scheduled in Modena from the 22 to the 29 October 2024. The objective of the project is to promote a culture of inclusion, of raising awareness and fighting prejudice, investigating the world of mental health and the stories of those who live in it. What better way than to use cinematic language to give a voice to citizens and all the operators who work hard every day to reduce suffering and improve the quality of life of those accessing services? Over one hundred authors from all over the world sent their work for the competition and the selection of the seven finalist films was curated by Yet another Film Festival (nnesimofilmfestival.com ).
The technical jury composed of Fabrizio Starace, Roberto Roversi and Leonardo Gandini will award the best short film the Vittorio Saltini Award, dedicated to the memory of Vittorio Saltini (1947-2014), political leader, involved in the world of associations and social cooperation as well as president of Arci Modena. A prominent personality of Modena society, attentive to social needs and transformations, active promoter of initiatives and proposals for the innovation of our welfare system. The public present in the room on the evening of November 17th will be able to vote for their favorite short film using a voting card, thus assigning the Audience Award. The project is promoted and organized by Arci Modena and Modena Local Health Authority.
The Viaemili@docfest contest has instead received 21 works from film schools, of which three from foreign schools, which can be voted online until November 15, to assign the web audience prize, which together with the jury prize and the DER prize make up the awards that they will be awarded on Saturday 18 November at 20pm at the Astra cinema in Modena, during the awards ceremony. In the selection of works are covered various current issues: integration, the story of borders, a refined story of an all-female laboratory in which five artists share their experiences, a documentary on Montagnola of Bologna and then there are more intimate portraits, such as the relationship with a grandmother who died in lockdown, told through films and family photos, and a journey through the D'Ivorio cinema of Rome.
