Friday 12nd and Saturday 13rd May

Modena: “Amleto” by Teatro dei Venti at the Dadà Theater in Castelfranco Emilia.

After the two Sunday public tours for families, the Dadà Theater of Castelfranco Emilia hosts the preview debut of on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th May at 20.30pm Hamlet, the new show by Theater of the Winds carried out within the projects in the Castelfranco Emilia prison.

«We are proud to be able to host this show in our renovated Teatro Dadà – comment the councilors of the City of Castelfranco Emilia Nadia Caselgrandi and Leonardo Pastore – built thanks to the precious work of Teatro dei Venti which, for years, has been operating inside the House of Reclusion of Castelfranco Emilia. Art, culture and theater are very powerful tools capable of promoting and encouraging inclusion and, for this reason, we want to extend immense thanks to the Management, the prison police staff and all those who worked hard to organize not only this show but also all the activities that constantly involve prisoners, internees and ex-prisoners."

In fact, the work marks the first experiment in the professionalisation of prisoners within the European project AHOS All Hands On Stage, to which organizations and penitentiary institutions from 30 countries (Italy, Germany, Poland, Romania and Serbia) participate for 5 months to involve the prisoners in work placement processes in the technical field of live entertainment.

Hamlet is also one of the events of Trasparenze XI edition, the widespread program of Teatro dei Venti in the territories of Castelfranco Emilia, Modena and Gombola (Modena Apennines).
Final chapter of the trilogy that Teatro dei Venti dedicates to Shakespeare and composed of Julius Caesar and Macbeth on the radio, the preview of Hamlet is made in co-production with Emilia Romagna Teatro ERT / Teatro Nazionale; the national premiere of the show is expected in Modena in November 2023.

«Since 2006 we have collaborated with the Casa di Reclusione di Castelfranco Emilia and with the Municipality of Castelfranco Emilia – declares the director of the Teatro dei Venti Stefano Tè – on artistic creation and professionalization projects. In recent years, the support of the Management, educators and the Penitentiary Police has also been essential in designing projects, finding solutions, creating opportunities for meetings between the Prison and the City, through the Theatre. In recent months we have set up an equipped theater space in the prison, to rehearse in a functional environment, before entering Dadà for the final rehearsals and debut. With this show the activities of All Hands on Stage begin, a European project linked to the professionalization of theater professions, in fact the sets and costumes were designed by Francesco, one of the participants. Our ambition is to create a scenography laboratory in prison, at the service of local theaters.
Hamlet also marks the return of an outdoor show, after the years of the pandemic and the consequent restrictions, a new opportunity made possible thanks to ERT and its desire to co-produce an artistic creation that was born locally, after the Odyssey last year and the collaboration for Giulio Cesare. Prison can be a place where culture and thought are produced through work and creativity."

«We are happy to continue the collaboration with Teatro dei Venti – say the president Giuliano Barbolini and the director of ERT Valter Malosti – an important local reality, which has been involved in the social sphere for years through valuable cultural and theatrical activities in prisons. The preview of his Hamlet, created together with the actor-prisoners, was welcomed with enthusiasm by the institutions and the Municipality of Castelfranco Emilia, with which we continue to maintain strong and virtuous relationships year after year. We believe that for ERT, as a National Theatre, it is essential to engage in dialogue with organizations such as Teatro dei Venti and artists such as Stefano Tè, both to support the quality of creative and social inclusion projects and to strengthen and make the idea concrete of a theater capable of connecting to life and becoming a community builder."
