The Civil Protection exercise “Messina Risk Sis.Ma.” begins on Monday 10 October. 2022”, now in its XI edition

Messina, the 11th edition of “MESSINA RISK SYS.MA. 2022"

 

The event scheduled in the city of Messina begins on Monday 10 October and focuses on National Civil Protection Week, which will continue until Saturday 15 October.

The event is promoted by the Mayor Federico Basile, on the initiative of the Councilor for Civil Protection Massimiliano Minutoli and the expert in Civil Protection activities Antonio Rizzo.

"MESSINA RISK SYS.MA. 2022” will take place in collaboration with the Prefecture of Messina, the National and Regional Departments of Civil Protection, the University of Messina, the Metropolitan City of Messina, the School Districts 28 and 29, the Office VIII territorial area of ​​Messina, the ASP 5, the Commissioner's Office for the COVID emergency, the SUES Operations Center 118, the hospitals Policlinico Martino, Piemonte IRCCS, Papardo, the Military Department of Forensic Medicine of Messina, the territorial institutions Mechanized Brigade Aosta, the Navy Military of Messina, the Military Arsenal of Messina, RFI Rete Ferroviaria Italiana Gruppo FS, the Regional Interdisciplinary Museum of Messina, the Asp 5 Company, the Mental Health Department (Camelot Day Centre), the Professional Orders of Engineers, Geologists, of Architects and Volunteer Associations.

Among the collaborating bodies, the ATM will participate with the supply of buses (both in the form of ambulances for the transport of the injured and for connections with health facilities).

The initiative is part of the campaign United Nations UNISDR "Making Cities Resilient".

The planning of risk and disaster processes must contribute to a continuous increase in awareness of territorial dangers. The exercise will include a simulated earthquake in the seismic area of ​​the Strait of Messina and which will be classified as type C emergency with magnitude of 6.3 on Richter scale and intensity of IX degree of Mercalli scale (MCS). 

Due to this intensity and extent, the simulation will have to be faced with extraordinary means and powers. 

In the shortest possible time, after the earthquake, theNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology will communicate to Department of National Civil Protection the parameters of the event in terms of location, magnitude and depth of the hypocenter. 

The purpose of the exercise is to determine and verify the effectiveness of the coordination of the existing components and operational structures, as well as take into account the vulnerability of buildings, infrastructures and networks providing essential services.
