Messina: the "European Mobility Week" started today at Palazzo Zanca.
During a press conference today in the Flag Hall in Zanca palace, present the mayor Federico Basile, the deputy mayor and councilor for Urban Mobility Salvatore Mondello, and the president of ATM Giuseppe Campagna, together with the member of the ATM Board of Directors Salvatore Ingegneri, the events within the “European Mobility Week”, promoted by the municipal administration, with ATM Messina, and which will see protagonists, among others, the University of Messina, the Messina Chamber of Commerce, Asstra-Transport Association, in its national and regional branches, and Confindustria.
“I am happy that mobility has become a central theme in our city today, – declared the mayor Basile - in reality it should have been already twenty years ago, but in the past little or nothing has been done on this topic. Sustainable mobility, however, is a priority objective of the Administration, both first with Mayor Cateno De Luca and today with my Government team in the name of continuity. Mobility is at the center of the week which is celebrated throughout Europe, as well as in Messina, where I hope there will be great participation from citizens. We are moving towards a real cultural change that requires some time for people to understand how important the use of public transport is."
“The mobility journey in Messina began in 2108 – continued the deputy mayor Mondello - and today we have reached the most important phase, that of the creation of a new model that will deliver a completely different city to the people of Messina. Discounted season tickets on public transport and interchange parking are aimed at leaving the private car at home. Young people are understanding that there is a real revolution underway, so much so that today they are the first users of our means of transport. It will take time, but I am sure that we will deliver a better Messina to the citizens. The initiatives within the European Mobility Week which will be held in Messina are a unique opportunity to debate and go beyond the topic of urban mobility".
“We want to take inspiration from the European Mobility Week – explained the president Countryside - to think about the future of mobility across the Strait. We must think that today we are projecting ourselves towards a much larger area and we must think with all the mobility actors involved, with the support of our transport association in its national and regional branches. Over the three days, important topics will be debated by professionals, professionals and representatives of institutions. At the end of the meeting a proposal will emerge to be delivered to the administrators".
The meeting with journalists was attended by prof. Adele Marino, in representation of UniMe; the general director of the Messina Chamber of Commerce Paola Sabella; the presidents of Small Industry, Roberto Franchina, and of the Uisp Messina Santino Cannavò; is Filippo Queirolo of the Da Vinci Foundation promoting committee.
