Messina: the men's and women's Surf Casting World Championship presented at Palazzo Zanca

Scheduled for November 5th to 11th, the opening ceremony will be held on Sunday 5th in Piazza Duomo.

Messina: the men's and women's Surf Casting World Championship presented at Palazzo Zanca.

Hosted for the first time in Messina, it was presented at Palazzo Zanca il Men's World Surf Casting Championship (39th edition) e female (30th edition), in the presence of the mayor Federico Basile and the councilor for Sports Policies Massimo Finocchiaro. The event, sponsored by the municipality of Messina, with the collaboration of Port Authority of Messina and the Maritime State Property Office, is promoted by Italian Sport Fishing Federation and Underwater Activities and organized by the FIPSAS regional and provincial committees of Sicily.

A delegation of national representatives of the company took part in the meeting with the press FIPSAS Federation and the vice-president of the Surface Fishing sector respectively of the relevant Committees Stefano Sarti, the president of the Committee for the organization of the World Cup and federal councilor Mariateresa Costanzo and the president of the provincial section of Catania Santo Gerardo Leva.

The beauty of the landscape of the splendid coast on the Strait represents the ideal setting for one of the most important international sporting events. Being able to organize a world championship is a great achievement for Messina which will certainly be able to give the maximum welcome to the commissioners, technicians, athletes and all the organizational staff. The setting up of a Village in Piazza Duomo represents a further attraction with the involvement of the schools and young people of our city".

“To the competitive spirit – continued the councilor Finocchiaro - of the athletes in an enchanting setting such as the deep and fish-filled waters of the Strait of Messina, this adds an opportunity for the City to be appreciated and once again be at the forefront of international borders to strengthen the Messina brand, giving all participants the opportunity to visit unique places and taste our food and wine excellences. Messina capable of co-organizing and hosting events of this magnitude. At the same time we shared with FIPSAS the idea of ​​offering moments of aggregation for our community by involving students and young people in general in recreational-sports activities in the Village of Piazza Duomo, to raise their awareness of the protection and enhancement of the environment and encourage social inclusion. We thank the Superintendent and all the schools; in particular the Antonello Institute, which will take care of the linguistic activity during the stay of the nations participating in the event".

Messina will do as a trailblazer at the start of the Championship, with the opening ceremony to be held Sunday 5 November, at 16pm, in Piazza Duomo, with the presentation of the twenty-two nations represented by 22 men's and 11 women's teams for a total of 160 athletes, who will compete, from Monday 6 to Friday 10 November, in the competition fields along the coasts of Messina and its municipalities, and the beaches of Catania and its area.

Not only fishing challenges along the beaches of the Messina coast, but also educational workshops scheduled in the "Village sport fishing”, set up in Piazza Duomo. The initiative, collateral to the sporting event, promoted by Italian Federation of Sport Fishing, Underwater Activities and Finswimming and shared by the mayor's administration Basile, provides educational activities aimed at primary and lower secondary schools, with the involvement of students in thematic workshops based on knowledge of correctly practiced federal water sports, the culture of water and the links with the territory from the plains, to the hills, the mountains and the sea. Magnetic fishing activities are planned, precision fishing, technical casting and even ecology games such asChasing Trash'” and “Take Me Home.”

The laboratories within the Village will be started starting from 10am on Sunday 5th and they will end Wednesday 8 November. With regard to schools, upon reservation, students can access the educational path only in the morning, from 9 am to 11.45 pm, according to the structure of six classes per day for a duration of one hour; with two classes entering every hour. In the afternoon the use of the Village it is free with free registration, open from 14.30 to 17, for a journey always lasting one hour.
