Messina, celebration today in honor of Santa Barbara
The solemn mass took place this morning in the Cathedral in honor of Santa Barbara, Patron Saint of “Servants of the State”, in the presence of the deputy mayor Salvatore Mondello, of the heads of the Navy, Fire Brigade, Artillery and Engineer Commands and of the highest civil and military authorities.
“An always evocative anniversary – commented Deputy Mayor Mondello – which celebrates the courage of all those who face danger every day, putting their lives at the service of the State, with commitment and self-sacrifice. It is important to preserve the sense of historical memory, underlining the value and sacrifice of the glorious representatives of the Army and the Forces of Order, who protect the community and allow us to live peacefully. This year's ceremony was particularly touching, as well as spectacular, for the evocative display of the Tricolore created in the splendid setting of Piazza Duomo, a symbolic place of Messina. The municipal administration renews its trust and gratitude to the Armed Forces and the Police Forces, who, with their constant closeness to the Messina community, represent a precious support in all occasions of necessity, as well as celebrations. In my capacity as Deputy Mayor with specific delegation, I can only be grateful to all our soldiers and our law enforcement forces, who have demonstrated and demonstrate a profound affection towards our city, supporting the Administration and completing important activities for our safety."
