Macerata, 80th anniversary of the bombing of the city: re-enactment in honor of the victims on Wednesday 3 April.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Macerata, an anniversary which is part of a particularly dramatic international scenario and therefore offers important food for thought.

The re-enactment of that tragic page of history is promoted, as every year, by the Municipality and the Macerata section of the National Association of Civil War Victims, chaired by Sandra Vecchioni, to celebrate the victims of all the air attacks that followed one another on the city of Macerata from April to July 1944.

A mass in memory of the victims of the air bombing of Macerata will be celebrated by Don Enzo Bruschi on Wednesday 3 April, at 19 pm, in the church of the Sacred Heart e a laurel wreath will be placed in via Pannelli, under the plaque in memory of the civilian victims of 1944. Citizens are invited to participate.

On 3 April 1944, Allied bombers hit the center of the city, causing 106 deaths and more than 200 injuries among the civilian population, spreading destruction and terror. Other air raids, in particular those on 2 and 14 June of the same year, caused further deaths, injuries and damage. Among the victims of those tragic events there were numerous children, women and elderly people, mainly residents of Vicolo della Nana, Corso Cairoli, Piazza Nazario Sauro, Via Santa Maria della Porta, Via Padre Matteo Ricci, Corso Cavour, Via Roma, Piazza della Vittoria, the Virgins, via Cioci.
